Abstract: A method of applying topical anesthetic to the inner surfaces of the uterus and cervix and a delivery device for practicing the method. The delivery device has a hollow discharge tube which is preferably curved towards a distal tip with at least one aperture. The tube is inserted through the vagina and the cervical canal until the resistance of the fundus is perceived. The delivery device is then operated to discharge anesthetic material through the aperture(s) in the region of the fundus, the tubal ostia and the cornua of the uterus such that the material displaces intra-uterine debris to facilitate reaching the mucosal surfaces of the uterus.
