  • Preservation of dicarboxylic acid chlorides

    Abstract: Discoloration of dicarboxylic acid chlorides having 4 to 10 carbon atoms, especially those made by reacting the corresponding dicarboxylic acid with phosphorus trichloride, is inhibited by the addition of a dicarboxylic acid thereto. Addition of a dicarboxylic acid to a dicarboxylic acid chloride which has already discolored precipitates impurities and thus clarifies the dicarboxylic acid chloride. The clarified dicarboxylic acid chlorides are useful as starting materials to make polyester foam materials.

  • Foam aggregate catamenial tampon

    Abstract: Foams (as for example polyurethane foam) catamenial tampons which have been treated with surfactant. Catamenial tampons of this invention exhibit improved humid expansion characteristics. In a preferred embodiment, the catamenial tampons comprise particles of lubricated polyurethane foam which have been treated with surfactant and which are contained within a fluid permeable overwrap. The invention includes a process for making the above described catamenial tampons.
