  • Publication number: 20070066988
Abstract: A trocar obturator includes a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end. The trocar obturator also includes a tip positioned at the distal end of the shaft, the tip including a distally extending blade structure adapted to reduce penetration forces required during insertion of the trocar obturator. The blade structure includes a first cutting edge and a second cutting edge.

  • Publication number: 20060021891
Abstract: A packaging device for a trocar assembly includes a housing member having a compliant first sleeve adapted for selective frictional retention of a trocar assembly component relative to the housing member and a compliant second sleeve adapted for selective frictional retention of a trocar assembly component relative to the housing member. The first sleeve includes an inlet opening at a first end thereof and a closed second end defining a shield member positioned about a tip of a trocar assembly component positioned therein. The second sleeve includes an inlet opening at a first end thereof and a closed second end defining a shield member positioned about a tip of a trocar assembly component positioned therein.

  • Publication number: 20050070851
Abstract: A trocar sleeve includes a trocar cannula and a trocar housing having a housing member base and a housing member cover. The trocar cannula and trocar housing are mechanically interfitted to form a trocar sleeve, wherein at least a portion of the trocar cannula sits within the housing member base with the housing member cover sitting over the trocar cannula for securing the at least a portion of the trocar cannula within the housing member base. The trocar sleeve also includes a stop-cock valve mechanically interfitted between the trocar cannula and the trocar housing.

  • Publication number: 20050067308
Abstract: A packaging device for a trocar assembly includes a housing member having a first retaining member adapted for selective retention of a trocar assembly component relative to the housing member along a component longitudinal axis. The housing member further includes a shield member remote from the first retaining member. The shield member lies in a shield longitudinal axis which is substantially perpendicular to the component longitudinal axis. The housing member is substantially open adjacent the shield member along the component longitudinal axis.

  • Publication number: 20050070943
Abstract: A lock assembly for use in conjunction with a trocar sleeve includes a lock assembly housing having an aperture extending therethrough. The lock assembly also includes a cam lever and an elastomeric block positioned within the lock assembly housing. The cam lever includes a first end pivotally secured to the lock assembly housing and a free second end that is adapted for user actuation, wherein rotation of the cam lever brings the elastomeric block into engagement with an instrument passing through the lock assembly housing for locking an instrument relative thereto.

  • Patent number: 6383197
Abstract: A surgical instrument for retrieving tissue from a patient. The instrument includes an elongated support tube having a proximal end and a distal end, and an elongated inner rod slidably and coaxially disposed within the support tube. The rod has a removable pouch attached thereto, wherein the pouch is initially disposed within the support tube, and wherein distal movement of the rod ejects the pouch from the tube. The instrument further includes a mechanism engaging the rod such that after the rod has initially been moved distally, the mechanism prevents proximal motion of the rod. The mechanism disengaging upon total ejection of the bag from the tube, and thereafter allows proximal and distal movement of the rod.
