  • Patent number: 5368926
Abstract: The present invention provides a fluid accepting, transporting and retaining structure, useful in disposable absorbent articles. In-use fluid deposited on a disposable absorbent article employing such a structure is moved via interfiber and intrafiber transport to a fluid retention area remote from the point of fluid insult. By moving fluid away from the point of insult a more effective use of the absorbent core is achieved providing a clean and dry surface for the wearer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 10, 1992
Date of Patent: November 29, 1994
Assignee: The Procter & Gamble Company
Inventors: Hugh A. Thompson, Tracey A. Martin, Thomas A. Inglin
  • Patent number: 4654039
Abstract: The present invention relates to improved hydrogel-forming polymer compositions which can be used as absorbents in absorbent structures and absorbent articles such as diapers, sanitary napkins and the like. Such hydrogel-forming polymer compositions are substantially water-insoluble, slightly cross-linked, partially neutralized polymers which are prepared from unsaturated polymerizable, acid group-containing monomers and cross-linking agents. These hydrogel-forming polymer materials, upon imbibing fluids, form hydrogels. Such polymer materials have relatively high gel volume and relatively high gel strength as measured by shear modulus of the hydrogel which forms therefrom. Such polymer materials also contain relatively low levels of extractable polymer material which can be extracted therefrom by contact with synthetic urine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 18, 1985
Date of Patent: March 31, 1987
Assignee: The Proctor & Gamble Company
Inventors: Kerryn A. Brandt, Stephen A. Goldman, Thomas A. Inglin
