  • Publication number: 20110035359
Abstract: According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method for reorganizing a source index tree of a database table resulting in a target index tree of the database table is provided. A backup process reads source leaf pages of the source index tree in a logical order defined by a sequence of index keys. The logical order can be different from a physical order of the source leaf pages defined by a sequence of respective storage locations. The backup process constructs target leaf pages of the target index tree maintaining the logical order. A restore process constructs target non-leaf pages of the target index tree based on the distribution of the index keys among the constructed leaf pages and stores the target leaf and non-leaf pages.

  • Publication number: 20100036864
Abstract: A method and system for preventing redundant indexes in a database management system (DBMS). A received create-index command specifies a new index to be created for retrieving data from a table created by the DBMS and a redundancy check to be performed for the new index in conjunction with an action parameter in the create-index command. If the action parameter includes a REPORT value, each redundant index is stored and/or displayed and the new index is created. If the action parameter includes a PREVENT value and an existing index is redundant in view of the new index and the new index is not redundant in view of the existing index, the existing index is deleted and the new index is created. If the action parameter includes a PREVENT value and the new index is redundant in view of an existing index, the new index is not created.

  • Publication number: 20070005669
Abstract: The present invention provides a new method and system for automated I/O optimization of restored databases. At the time a backup image of the database is created metadata of the database are automatically generated. The metadata includes information about the physical database layout and disk I/O performance on a source system. Metadata and backup image of the database are then backed up on an external storage device together resulting in a new, extended backup image. In a preferred embodiment the backup image of the database includes the metadata. At the time a restore of the backup image on a target system is made the metadata and information about number and sizes of the disks on said target system are retrieved. Based on that information an optimized physical database layout for the database on the target system with respect to an optimized I/O performance is calculated. Finally, the backup image is restored on the target system according to the optimized physical database layout.

  • Patent number: 6653567
Abstract: The invention relates to an indicating instrument, in particular for a motor vehicle, having a housing with a front frame holding a cover pane, and an elastic spacing element arranged between the cover pane and front frame, and to a method for connecting the cover pane to the front frame. In order to ensure a reliable connection between the cover pane and front frame which is without play, the invention proposes the spacing element be placed in an axial cutout which is arranged in the region of the circumference of the front frame and faces the cover pane, and in which the cover pane can engage. The method consists in that in a first step the spacing element is inserted into the axial cutout in the front frame, and in a second step the cover pane is pressed into the axial cutout against the spacing element.
