  • Patent number: 9522706
Abstract: An aerodynamic drag reducing apparatus is adapted for mounting behind a vehicle. The apparatus includes a first actuator that may reside adjacent one or more lock-rods of a rear door of the vehicle. The first actuator is adapted to deploy a first aerodynamic panel and/or frame of an aerodynamic assembly. The first actuator may be retracted by a tension member. A second actuator is adapted to deploy a second aerodynamic panel and/or frame of the aerodynamic assembly. When an operator or other means moves the second aerodynamic panel to a stowed position of the second panel, tension is developed in the tension member, and the first actuator is thereby retracted. The retraction of the first actuator may move the first panel to a stowed position of the first panel.

  • Publication number: 20160284570
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a semiconductor package having encapsulated dies with enhanced thermal performance. The semiconductor package includes a carrier, an etched flip chip die attached to a top surface of the carrier, a first mold compound, and a second mold compound. The etched flip chip die includes a device layer and essentially does not include a substrate. The first mold compound resides on the top surface of the carrier, surrounds the etched flip chip die, and extends beyond a top surface of the etched flip chip die to form a cavity, to which the top surface of the etched flip chip die is exposed. The second mold compound fills the cavity and is in contact with the top surface of the etched flip chip die. The second mold compound having a high thermal conductivity improves thermal performance of the etched flip chip die.

  • Publication number: 20160284568
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to enhancing the thermal performance of encapsulated flip chip dies. According to an exemplary process, a plurality of flip chip dies are attached on a top surface of a carrier, and a first mold compound is applied over the top surface of the carrier to encapsulate the plurality of flip chip dies. The first mold compound is thinned down to expose a substrate of each flip chip die and the substrate of each flip chip die is then substantially etched away to provide an etched flip chip die that has an exposed surface at the bottom of a cavity. Next, a second mold compound with high thermal conductivity is applied to substantially fill each cavity and the top surface of the second mold compound is planarized. Finally, the encapsulated etched flip chip dies can be marked, singulated, and tested as a module.

  • Publication number: 20160243468
Abstract: Flow of water is in the same direction during a water-filtering cycle and a filter-cleaning cycle. That feature leads to an especially simple, economical and effective system for (a) producing filtered water and (b) cleaning, during a filter-cleaning cycle, the filter that cleans the water of particulates. No backwash is needed. Forward wash filter cleaning makes use of principles of physics, man-made equipment, and attraction of black sand (e.g., sand containing magnetite) to magnets. Those elements are combined in a novel way to (a) constrain the sand in a compact but permeable filtering layer and (b) allow a forward wash filter-cleaning cycle by simply flowing water through a layer of particulate-laden black sand after the layer has been made less compact by being disrupted during the filter-cleaning cycle. In other words, particulates previously trapped during a water-filtering cycle are washed away in forward-flowing, particulate-laden water during the filter-cleaning cycle.

  • Patent number: 9420704
Abstract: In one embodiment, a meta-module having circuitry for two or more modules is formed on a substrate, which is preferably a laminated substrate. The circuitry for the different modules is initially formed on the single meta-module. Each module will have one or more component areas in which the circuitry is formed. A metallic structure is formed on or in the substrate for each component area to be shielded. A single body, such as an overmold body, is then formed over all of the modules on the meta-module. At least a conductive vertical interconnect access structure (vias) associated with each component area to be shielded is then exposed through the body by a cutting, drilling, or similar operation. Next, an electromagnetic shield material is applied to the exterior surface of the body of each of the component areas to be shielded and in contact with the exposed conductive vias.

  • Patent number: 9406485
Abstract: An argon and helium plasma apparatus and method are disclosed that operate with argon or helium at atmospheric pressure, and at low temperatures, and with high concentrations of reactive species in the effluent stream. Laminar gas flow is developed prior to forming the plasma and at least one of the electrodes is heated which enables operation at conditions where the argon or helium plasma would otherwise be unstable and either extinguish, or transition into an arc. The apparatus and method can be employed to remove organic materials from a substrate, thereby cleaning the substrate; activate the surfaces of materials thereby enhancing adhesion between the material and an adhesive; kill microorganisms on a surface, thereby sterilizing the substrate; etches thin films of materials from a substrate, and deposit thin films and coatings onto a substrate.

  • Publication number: 20160206988
Abstract: A general ventilation and air filtration system includes an air filtration control unit that monitors and controls an air flow through an air filter and maintains the air flow at a target velocity set point. The target velocity set point is maintained by monitoring and regulating the power of a motor powering a blower that generates an air flow though the air filtration system and through the air filter. By regulating the air flow and maintaining it in the target set point, power consumption and air filter life are significantly improved.

  • Publication number: 20160184748
Abstract: A floating filtration apparatus prevents harm to marine life when seawater is withdrawn from an ocean. The apparatus has a floating framework that largely surrounds a space into which water rises from below to find its own level. The water passes through a porous filter as it moves upward into the space, thus producing filtered water that has had marine life gently screened out. A continuous flow of filtered water is achieved when the filtered water in the space is pumped away and new, unfiltered water from below passes upward through the filter and into the space. Water pumped away from the apparatus does not contain marine life that could be killed in the pipes and pumps that bring seawater to cool a power plant or supply a desalination facility.

  • Publication number: 20160185401
Abstract: An aerodynamic drag reducing apparatus is adapted for mounting behind a vehicle. The aerodynamic drag reducing apparatus includes a side panel, an actuator arrangement, a top panel, and an interconnecting member. The side panel is adapted to move between a deployed position and a stowed position. The actuator is mounted between the side panel and the vehicle. The top panel is adapted to move between a deployed position and a stowed position. The interconnecting member is connected between the side panel and the top panel. The interconnecting member coordinates movement between the side and top panels such that they each move together between the deployed positions and the stowed positions, respectively. One or more of the panels may be mounted to a door of the vehicle via deformable hinges and/or deformably mounted hinges and thereby allow the door to open compactly against a side of the vehicle by deforming the panels, the hinges, and/or the mounts of the hinges.
