Patent number: 10491147Abstract: System and method are disclosed for power management in a vehicle having two or more alternators. An example vehicle power system includes first and second alternators, and a processor. The processor is configured to determine that a load coupled to the first and second alternators increases at greater than a threshold rate. The processor is also configured to responsively (i) reduce respective voltage setpoints of the first and second alternators, and (ii) turn off the second alternator. And the processor is further configured to, after determining that a voltage transient caused by the load has expired, turn on the second alternator.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2017Date of Patent: November 26, 2019Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Alan Francis Judge, Gabriel Jim, Jeffrey Raymond Mohr, James Brian Keyse, Anthony Thomas Spoto, John G. Patent number: 6501374Abstract: A secondary seat belt warning system for a motor vehicle includes at least one control module for activating at least one secondary warning signal. The secondary seat belt warning system also includes a driver seat belt sensor for producing an input signal indicative of a state of a driver seat belt between a buckled and unbuckled condition. The secondary seat belt warning system includes at least one passenger seat belt sensor for producing an input signal indicative of a state of at least one passenger seat belt between a buckled and unbuckled condition. The at least one control module communicates with the driver seat belt sensor and the at least one passenger seat belt sensor for activating the at least one secondary warning signal to alert a corresponding occupant of the motor vehicle if the state of at least one of the driver seat belt and the at least one passenger seat belt is the unbuckled condition.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 2000Date of Patent: December 31, 2002Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Daniel M. King, Keith Z. Doorenbos, Scott Howard Gaboury, Steven Yellin Schondorf, Thomas M. McQuade, Thomas A. Spoto

Patent number: 5619075Abstract: An automotive locking system for an automotive vehicle has a latch with a locked and unlocked position, a switch having a first state and a second state and a timer. A controller is connected to the switch, the latch and the timer. The controller positions the latch of a door in the unlocked position if the duration the switch is in the first and second states corresponds to a valid switch signal rather than electrical noise or a shorted switch. The system may also control unlatching all the doors if the switch changes between the first and second states for predetermined durations of each state.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1995Date of Patent: April 8, 1997Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Thomas A. Spoto, Sean M. Newell

Patent number: 5539869Abstract: Method and system are provided for processing and presenting on-line, multimedia information such as diagnostic information for a machine tool. The system uses multimedia information tools (i.e. graphics, documentation, drawings, photographs, full motion video with audio, PLC ladder, etc.) and techniques to assist maintenance personnel. Diagnostic development and multimedia information assignment are accomplished through graphical visual programming, which requires no conventional software programming efforts. The system uses diagnostic trees having multimedia graphic icons which define the diagnostic components. In developing a visual diagnostic tree, the multimedia information can be assigned or mapped to each node of the tree by selecting an appropriate icon to represent the multimedia from an icon library. Then, an appropriate media information file or record and comments for that icon are further added to define that node assignments.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1992Date of Patent: July 23, 1996Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Thomas A. Patent number: 5311759Abstract: Method and system for monitoring the operation of a stamping press preferably for forming automobile parts, such as fenders and quarter panels, based on a plurality of features extracted from a press signature. The method includes defining the plurality of features, each feature representing a parameter associated with the process of forming the parts, and operating the stamping press so as to produce a predetermined number of production parts while collecting a production operating signature. The method also includes extracting the feature values from the production operating signature to obtain production feature values, and comparing the production feature values to predetermined operating limits which represent limits within which acceptable parts are formed.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1992Date of Patent: May 17, 1994Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Suresh M. Mangrulkar, Thomas A. Spoto, James S. Rankin, II
