  • Publication number: 20240138584
Abstract: A smart bed automatically initiates a sleep sequence upon detecting the presence of an individual in a sleeping position on a sleep surface of the smart bed. Such a smart bed may include a mattress that defines the sleep surface, at least one sensor associated with the sleep surface, and a processor that communicates with the at least one sensor and controls one or more functions of the mattress. Initiation of the sleep sequence may include initiating one or more functions of the smart bed and, optionally, one or more functions of an environment within which the smart bed is located to help the individual relax and fall asleep.

  • Publication number: 20240138586
Abstract: This disclosure relates generally to smart beds and, more specifically, to smart beds that can detect at least one component of an activity by an individual sleeping on the smart bed that is indicative of a condition that adversely affects restful sleep by the sleeping individual. Additionally, this disclosure relates to smart beds that automatically adjust a state of the sleep surface of a mattress in response to detection of the activity to reduce the activity by the sleeping individual.

  • Publication number: 20240138583
Abstract: A remote control system for a smart bed includes a remote control and a smart phone. The smart bed includes a mattress and a control unit that controls operation of one or more functions of the mattress. The smart bed also includes a receiver in communication with the control unit. The remote control includes a processor in communication with a transmitter, a transceiver, and one or more inputs in communication with the processor to allow an individual to control or determine a manner in which at least one function of the mattress will operate. The smart phone includes a processor that executes an app to enable the processor to receive updates for the remote control and send those updates to the processor of the remote control.

  • Publication number: 20240138585
Abstract: A smart bed automatically initiates an out-of-bed sequence upon detecting the presence of an individual in a sleeping position on a sleep surface of the smart bed. Such a smart bed may include a mattress that defines the sleep surface, at least one sensor associated with the sleep surface, and a processor that communicates with the at least one sensor and controls one or more functions of the mattress. Initiation of the out-of-bed sequence may include initiating one or more functions of the smart bed and, optionally, one or more functions of an environment within which the smart bed is located.

  • Publication number: 20240138587
Abstract: A smart bed that can identify one or more individuals on the sleep surface of a mattress of the smart bed. One or more features of the smart bed may be actuated or adjusted based on the identity of the individual on the sleep surface. Methods for identifying an individual on a sleep surface of a mattress of a smart bed and, optionally, actuating or adjusting at least one feature of the smart bed in response to the identity of the individual on the sleep surface are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10215635
Abstract: Aspects of blending data detected by a monochromator over multiple wavelength ranges is described herein. In one embodiment, the monochromator includes a diffraction grating, a grating drive motor that rotates the diffraction grating to provide, by diffraction of broadband light, first dispersed wavelengths of light and second dispersed wavelengths of light, a detector that detects a first reflection from the first dispersed wavelengths of light and a second reflection from the second dispersed wavelengths of light, and processing circuitry that blends data values from the first reflection and data values from the second reflection together to provide a spectrum of combined data values. By blending data detected over multiple ranges, measurements of relatively high precision and quality can be provided over a wider spectral range.

  • Patent number: 9551612
Abstract: Aspects of a monochromator are described herein. In one embodiment, the monochromator includes a light source that provides light, a diffraction grating including a first diffraction grating and a second diffraction grating, a grating drive motor that rotates the diffraction grating to provide dispersed wavelengths of light, a detector that detects a portion of the dispersed wavelengths of light, and processing circuitry that controls a grating drive motor to regulate an angular velocity of the grating based on an angular orientation of the diffraction grating. By using a diffraction grating having multiple, different dispersive surfaces, measurements of relatively high precision and quality may be taken throughout a wider spectral range. In another aspect, the processing circuitry controls a sample drive motor to vary an angle of incidence of the dispersed wavelengths of light onto a sample for evaluation.

  • Patent number: 9546903
Abstract: Aspects of a tandem dispersive range monochromator and data knitting for the monochromator are described herein. In one embodiment, the monochromator includes a tandem diffraction grating, a grating drive motor that rotates the tandem diffraction grating to provide, by diffraction of broadband light, first dispersed wavelengths of light and second dispersed wavelengths of light, a detector that detects a first reflection from the first dispersed wavelengths of light and a second reflection from the second dispersed wavelengths of light, and processing circuitry that knits together data values from the first reflection and data values from the second reflection to provide a spectrum of combined data values. By using a tandem diffraction grating having different dispersive surfaces, measurements of relatively high precision and quality may be taken throughout a wider spectral range, and the measurements may be knitted together to provide a spectrum of combined data values.
