  • Patent number: 6464769
Abstract: A method of manufacturing metallic, especially aluminum flake pigments comprises comminuting metallic flake particles in an inert solvent such as mineral spirit and in-line screening of the slurry thus formed in at least two in-line cylindrical rotary screens with different mesh size. The screening system is fully enclosed to avoid solvent emissions. The finished product has consistent flake particle size distribution with brighter metallic finishes than conventionally produced products.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 3, 2001
Date of Patent: October 15, 2002
Assignees: US Aluminum Inc., Shamrock Aluminium Limited, Canbro INC
Inventors: Arun Kumar Chattopadhyay, Talal Soufanati, Michel Moffatt, Thomas Aquinas Barry, Samir Sanyal

  • Patent number: 6235104
Abstract: Metal pigment, especially aluminum pigment is produced in a non toxic environment by milling and/or blending in an inert medium comprising transesterified alkyl, especially methyl esters of vegetable oils selected from soybean oil, cotton seed oil and linseed oil. The metallic pigments produced are of improved quality and appearance. They have improved brightness and the non-leafing pigments produced have highly leafing characteristics.
