  • Patent number: 11582998
Abstract: There is provided a smoking article that includes a plurality of elements, including a front-plug and an aerosol-forming substrate, assembled in contact with a cigarette paper to form a rod. The front-plug is located upstream from the aerosol-forming substrate. In use, a heating element is inserted into the smoking article and the aerosol-forming substrate is heated to generate an aerosol. When the heating element is subsequently withdrawn from the smoking article, the front-plug acts to retain the aerosol-forming substrate within the rod.

  • Publication number: 20230042344
Abstract: A smoking article for an aerosol-generating device including a heating element is provided, the article retaining an aerosol-forming substrate in fixed relation to and in contact with a cigarette paper of the article after shrinkage of the substrate, the article including cylindrical elements including a front-plug and the substrate assembled in contact with the paper forming a rod having mouth and distal ends, the substrate contacting the heating element when the plug is penetrated by the heating element via the distal end, and in which the article has a first unheated state in which the cigarette paper retains the cylindrical elements in position by an interference interaction in which the paper grips and holds the cylindrical elements within the rod, and a second heated state in which the substrate has shrunk relative to the first state and the paper retains the cylindrical elements in position by the interference interaction.

  • Patent number: 11278052
Abstract: A smoking article for use in an aerosol-generating device includes an aerosol-forming substrate located at an extreme upstream end of the smoking article; and a support element located immediately downstream of the aerosol-forming substrate. The support element abuts the aerosol-forming substrate and the aerosol-forming substrate is configured to be penetrable by a heating element of an aerosol-generating device having a diameter of between about 40 percent and about 70 percent of the diameter of the aerosol-forming substrate without substantial deformation of the smoking article. The support element is configured to resist downstream movement of the aerosol-forming substrate during insertion of the heating element of the aerosol-generating device into the aerosol-forming substrate.

  • Patent number: 11039642
Abstract: A smoking article is provided, including a plurality of elements including a front-plug and an aerosol-forming substrate. A hole or slit is defined through the front-plug, through which a heating element may be inserted. In use, a heating element is inserted into the smoking article through the hole or slit and the aerosol-forming substrate is heated to generate an aerosol. When the heating element is subsequently withdrawn from the smoking article, the front-plug acts to retain the aerosol-forming substrate within the smoking article.

  • Patent number: 7243659
Abstract: The invention relates to a recess filter with a cavity associated with the mouth and provided with a cavity wall, in addition to one or more filter elements associated with the tobacco. The cavity wall surrounds either the cavity or the cavity and, at the most, one part of the filter element(s), whereby ambient air can enter the filter element(s) from the side in order to provide sufficient ventilation. The invention also relates to a stack of several recess filters in addition to a smokeable article, especially a cigarette or cigarillo comprising one such recess filter.
