Publication number: 20230387612Abstract: A grounding connector can include a connector body and a shear bolt. The connector body can have a recess sized to receive one or more conductors and a threaded portion. The shear bolt can be sized to engage the threaded portion of the connector body to secure the one or more conductors within the recess. When the shear bolt is tightened into the threaded portion of the connector body, the shear bolt can retain the one or more conductors within the recess. When the shear bolt is subject to a shear torque, a head of the shear bolt can shear from a body of the shear bolt. The shear torque can correspond to a target compression force applied between the shear bolt and the one or more conductors.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 31, 2023Publication date: November 30, 2023Inventors: Dale Boling, Christian Barcey, Thomas Bendlak, Brent Wilmoth, Gregory Dean Holder

Publication number: 20230287994Abstract: A clamp for supporting an electrical conductor on a structure and providing electrical continuity between the electrical conductor and the structure is provided. The clamp can include a mounting member with a through-hole and a strap, that can be configured to extend around the structure, coupled on one end to a first side of the mounting member and having a free end removably coupled to a second side of the mounting member. The clamp can include a clamping member with a through-hole and a main bolt extending through the through-holes of the mounting member and the clamping member. The main bolt can have a footer configured to contact the structure, which can be movable between a first configuration in which the footer is nested within a pocket of the mounting member and a second configuration in which at least a portion of the footer is positioned outside of the pocket.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 16, 2023Publication date: September 14, 2023Inventors: Thomas Bendlak, Erika Lynn Buehman, Gregory Holder, Caitlyn VonFeldt

Publication number: 20230124733Abstract: A monitor system for one or more surge protection devices may include a hub configured for wireless communication with one or more remote devices, or a sensor configured to detect an end-of-life state of a surge protection device (SPD). The sensor may include a transmitter configured to wirelessly transmit a sensor signal to the hub to indicate the end-of-life state of the SPD. The hub may be configured to transmit to one or more of a remote server or a mobile device a hub signal corresponding to the end-of-life state.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2022Publication date: April 20, 2023Inventors: Greg Martinjak, Spencer Allemang, Thomas Bendlak

Patent number: 11078889Abstract: A method of installing a lightning protection system can include forming a blade wall of a wind turbine to at least partly include a socket. A part of the socket can be removed, after forming the blade wall, to provide an opening through the blade wall. A receptor plug and a receptor element can be secured to the socket at the opening.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2019Date of Patent: August 3, 2021Assignee: ERICO International CorporationInventors: Thomas Bendlak, Matthew Flemming, Daniel Pfaff

Patent number: 10468871Abstract: A modular distribution block for a high-current power system includes a ground module and one or more phase modules. The ground module includes a grounding clamp configured to electrically and mechanically connect to a DIN rail and to retain the distribution block in place with respect to the DIN rail. The phase module(s) include: a conductive splice block that connects a line current from a power supply to a powered device; and, a first surge protective device (SPD) terminal and a second SPD terminal configured to together receive and electrically connect to an SPD module, such connection forming a surge protection circuit within the distribution block, the first SPD terminal electrically connecting to the bus terminal and the second SPD terminal electrically connecting, to the splice block. A rigid bus bar electrically connects the ground module to the phase module(s).Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2017Date of Patent: November 5, 2019Assignee: ERICO INTERNATIONAL CORPORATIONInventors: Christian Barcey, Thomas Bendlak, Thomas Bockstoce

Patent number: 10344743Abstract: A lightning protection system can include a socket, a receptor plug, a tip receptor, and a tip receptor mount. The socket can extend at least partly through a blade wall, and can include a socket body, a first retention shoulder, and a plurality of first teeth. The receptor plug can include a plug body, a plug conductor, a second retention shoulder, and a plurality of second teeth. The first retention shoulder can engage the second retention shoulder to secure the receptor plug to the socket. The first plurality of teeth can engage the second plurality of teeth to resist rotation of the receptor plug. The tip receptor mount can include latticed bonding wings that can be secured to a wind turbine blade with bonding material. The receptor plug can be accessed to be secured to the socket via an opening in another socket that is formed into the blade wall.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2016Date of Patent: July 9, 2019Assignee: ERICO INTERNATIONAL CORPORATIONInventors: Thomas Bendlak, Matthew Flemming, Daniel Pfaff
