Publication number: 20240131276Abstract: An insertion mechanism for a cannula includes a cannula housing, a displaceable cannula, at least one cannula holder, an insertion spring, a triggering element, and a safety device. The safety device, in a secured state, holds the triggering element in a blocked position against a force of the insertion spring and, in a released state, releases the triggering element such that the triggering element is movable into a release position by the force of said insertion energy store and the at least one cannula holder is able to move relative to the cannula housing, driven by the insertion energy store, so as to trigger or implement an insertion movement or insertion. To reach the released state, the safety mechanism is heatable by a heating element and softened and/or weakened with respect to its mechanical carrying or holding capacity, or severed or at least partially or completely melted.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2023Publication date: April 25, 2024Inventors: Thomas Buri, Christophe Hofer, Patrick Hostettler, Seline Staub, Jürg Steck, Ursina Streit

Publication number: 20230285664Abstract: The present invention concerns a drug delivery device with an electric brushless DC or stepper motor. A novel approach to motor control uses the micro-stepping technique in combination with over-revving the commutation of the stepper motor and reversing the rotor for a small number of microsteps with each delivery cycle. This approach has the effect of keeping the elasticity of the drive train behind the plunger in a relaxed state after completing a delivery cycle, providing better control of the movement of the rotor. Loss of steps can be avoided for a wide range of friction or speed situations, increasing the accuracy of drug delivery and making tracking of the rotor position and detecting loss of steps a much better parameter to detect blockage or occlusion. The increased controllability allows to substantially increase the motor speed for delivery, resulting in an optimum of energy efficiency while still ensuring reliable operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2023Publication date: September 14, 2023Inventors: Thomas Buri, Ursina Streit, Manuel Hulliger

Publication number: 20230125644Abstract: A delivery device for administering a drug includes a housing, a reservoir and a drive device with a movable piston rod. The piston rod is guided through an aperture in an inner or outer wall of the housing. The aperture is sealed but allows the piston rod to move. The shape of the circumference of the cross-section of the piston rod is approximately a non-trivial curve of constant width.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2022Publication date: April 27, 2023Inventors: Ursina Streit, Jan Baumert, Thomas Buri, Michael Hanimann, Roland Margot, Fabian Steiner, Patrick Hostettler, Simon Martin Bosshard, Martin Brügger

Patent number: 11406754Abstract: A disposable module that can be coupled to a reusable module in order to form a pump for dispensing a medicament substance to a user in a metered manner in a coupled state, comprising a housing that encases the following components: a reservoir for receiving the substance to be dispensed; and at least one extensible cannula, which is fluidically connected to the reservoir either after being inserted or in a permanent manner. The disposable module may also comprise an electrical energy store, wherein the electrical energy necessary for the reusable module can be obtained both from the disposable module and also from a rechargeable battery in the reusable module, in order to ensure redundancy of the energy necessary for the reusable module.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2019Date of Patent: August 9, 2022Assignee: TECMED AGInventors: Ursina Streit, Seline Staub, Thomas Buri, Patrick Hostettler, Juerg Steck, Christophe Hofer, Andreas Koehli, Florian Kuehni, Marc Labudde, Thomas Leuzinger

Publication number: 20210338924Abstract: A modular device for administering a fluid medicament fixable to the skin of a user includes a reservoir module with a reservoir defining a first axis, a first connecting structure and a first electrical contact arrangement; and a pump module with a piston rod defining a second axis, a second connecting structure arranged around the piston rod, and a second electrical contact arrangement. The first and second connecting structures are plugged together and the first axis and the second axes lie on a common axis forming a rotational axis. The pump module is rotated relative to the reservoir module about this rotational axis to electrically connect the first and second electrical contact arrangements. The first contact arrangement is displaced radially farther from the first axis than the first connecting structure, and the second electrical contact arrangement is displaced radially farther from the second axis than the second connecting structure.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 13, 2021Publication date: November 4, 2021Inventors: Ursina Streit, Thomas Buri, Christophe Hofer, Patrick Hostettler, Bernhard Bigler, Simon Martin Bosshard, Jürg Steck, Thomas Leuzinger, Clemens Zürcher

Patent number: 11154654Abstract: A coupling mechanism for a medication delivery device includes a first part axially fixed relative to a housing and rotatable around a longitudinal axis of the first part, the first part having a gearing engagement to a second part arranged along the longitudinal axis, the gearing engagement having a first frictional resistance. The second part axially moveable along the longitudinal axis, and directly or indirectly in a friction fit engagement with the housing, which has a second frictional resistance. The first frictional resistance being below the second frictional resistance such that a rotation of the first part in a first direction axially longitudinally moves the second part away from the first part and a rotation in a second direction, opposite to the first rotation direction, reduces the axial distance between the first and second part and/or axially moves the second part into coupling abutment with the first part.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2018Date of Patent: October 26, 2021Assignee: Ypsomed AGInventors: Jürg Hirschel, Patrick Hostettler, Thomas Buri, Simon Scheurer
