Patent number: 8600553Abstract: An autonomous coverage robot includes a drive system, a bump sensor, and a proximity sensor. The drive system is configured to maneuver the robot according to a heading (turn) setting and a speed setting. The bump sensor is responsive to a collision of the robot with an obstacle in a forward direction. A method of navigating an autonomous coverage robot with respect to an object on a floor includes the robot autonomously traversing the floor in a cleaning mode at a full cleaning speed. Upon sensing a proximity of the object forward of the robot, the robot reduces the cleaning speed to a reduced cleaning speed while continuing towards the object until the robot detects a contact with the object. Upon sensing contact with the object, the robot turns with respect to the object and cleans next to the object, optionally substantially at the reduced cleaning speed.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2007Date of Patent: December 3, 2013Assignee: iRobot CorporationInventors: Selma Svendsen, Daniel N. Patent number: 7355988Abstract: An application server includes an asynchronous event manager configured for selectively terminating an instance executing a messaging session, based on detecting a message from a gateway server that the incoming call is a call having a type that differs from the prescribed type intended for the messaging session. The asynchronous event manager terminates the instance by setting global variables accessible by the instance that specify that the call is rejected (i.e., the connection between the gateway and the instance executing the messaging session is terminated) due to the incoming call being of a different type than intended for that messaging session, for example the call being a fax call instead of a voice call.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2001Date of Patent: April 8, 2008Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Melissa Lee Denbar, William Bateman Willaford, IV, James Marion Coulthard, Brian Thomas Burnett

Patent number: 5451779Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining at least one characteristic of a formation is provided which includes storing a plurality of counts received from both a long space radiation detector and a short space radiation detector. The counts are detected during a plurality of short duration time periods which are brief compared to rotary drilling speed. A count rate mean is determined and used to sort each of the plurality of count measurements into one of at least three bins. Count information accumulated in at least one of the bins is used to calculate a corrected density. A short space collimator enhances the count rate of singly scattered gamma rays detected by the short space detector and blocks gamma rays from the formation radially outwardly of the short space detector to improve spine-rib correction characteristics for relatively short standoffs. The method of sorting the plurality of short duration time period measurements improves the accuracy for short standoffs to larger standoffs.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1993Date of Patent: September 19, 1995Assignee: Baroid CorporationInventors: Ronald L. Patent number: 4084665Abstract: A disc brake includes a rotor with friction surfaces, a caliper cooperating with a pair of friction elements to engage the friction elements with the rotor friction surfaces when a brake application is effected and a torque member supporting the caliper via a pin and elastomeric ring construction. The pin includes recesses for carrying elastomeric rings, which resiliently engage the caliper and the torque member to dispose the pin in spaced relation to the caliper and torque member. A groove in the pin forms an interference fit with a washer, which is releasably secured to the torque member, to limit the axial movement of the pin relative to the torque member. The elastomeric rings are deformable axially to permit axial movement of the caliper relative to the pin with only limited sliding of the caliper on the elastomeric rings and are deformable radially to permit the pin to engage the torque member and the caliper.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1976Date of Patent: April 18, 1978Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventor: Richard Thomas Burnett
