  • Patent number: 4760949
Abstract: A composite container includes a high barrier inner liner member including a metal layer of vacuum-deposited aluminum parallel with and spaced from the longitudinal edge of a synthetic plastic base thereby to define a first web that is helically wound in edge-overlapping relation such that one longitudinal edge of the metal strip overlaps the other longitudinal edge of the metal strip by a given distance (d). The overlapping edges of the first web are hermetically joined by a heat-sealable bond between an adhesive layer covering the metal strip and the adjacent face of the first web, and a compatible heat-sealable layer on the opposite face of the web.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 6, 1987
Date of Patent: August 2, 1988
    Assignee: Sonoco Products Company
    Inventor: Thomas C. Elias

  • Patent number: 4280653
Abstract: A composite container including a peelable patch top closure assembly, and a method for forming the same, are disclosed, including a tubular composite body member reversely outwardly curled at one end, a generally disk-shaped membrane patch top member extending across the reversely curled body end to close the same, and a heat sealable coextrudable synthetic plastic film laminate bonding the patch top member to the reversely curled body end, the coefficient of adhesion between the laminate layers being less than that between the laminate layers and the adjacent surfaces of the associated members, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4209126
Abstract: A partial opening patch top closure member for containers is disclosed including at least one layer of monoaxially oriented synthetic plastic film the grain pattern of which extends in a given direction. The closure member includes body and tab portions so arranged relative to the grain pattern of the film that upon pulling of the tab portion, a section of the body portion is torn from the body portion along a line of tear parallel with the grain pattern, thereby leaving bonded to the container a residual body portion section containing a dispensing opening. Preferably the line of tear is at least partially defined by a tear-initiating cut contained in a juncture between the tab and body portions.
