  • Patent number: 4435185
Abstract: A significant improvement in the combustion properties of liquid hydrocarbon furnace fuel, perceived as a marked reduction in the rate and quantity of tarry, cokelike deposits formed on combustion of the fuel in conventional burner equipment, is obtained by adding to said fuel from about 1.0.times.10.sup.-6 to about 1.0.times.10.sup.-3 parts by weight of at least one isomer of dinitrotoluene. Optionally, combustion deposit formation can be further inhibited by the addition of at least one metal acetylacetonate to furnace fuel containing dinitrotoluene in the aforesaid amount.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 1979
Date of Patent: March 6, 1984
    Assignee: Horizon Chemical, Inc.
Inventors: Thomas C. Kenny, John P. Plunkett
  • Patent number: 4370147
Abstract: Fuel consumption in compression ignition engines is significantly reduced by the addition to fuel for operating said engines of from about 1.0.times.10.sup.-6 to about 1.0.times.10.sup.-3 parts by weight of at least one isomer of dinitrotoluene. Optionally, the fuel may further contain an amount of at least one metal acetylacetonate to effect an appreciable reduction in the level of combustion particulates which are produced upon ignition of the fuel.
