    Abstract: An insulation composite for attenuating energy or sound transmission has a body layer of insulating material with a roughly textured face and a uniform thickness solid cover layer permanently embedded in the body layer to a partial depth so that material of the body layer does not protrude through the surface of the cover layer. The body layer can be rigid board or resilient batting such as fiberglass. The cover layer is formed from a curable fluid cast onto the upwardly facing surface of the body layer. The uniform thickness of the cover layer is achieved by spreading the fluid over the surface utilizing a coating bar having a downwardly facing corrugated profile defining ridges in contact with the body layer and grooves between the ridges, such as a wire wound coating bar Some of the fluid is pressed into the body layer by the ridges while other fluid passes through the grooves then settles to uniform thickness over the wet surface of the body layer.

    Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for imparting a crease in a facing layer that is bonded to an insulation mat having first and second major surfaces and a pair of side portions. The apparatus can comprise a pair of opposing creasing bars or rollers between which the facing layer is fed in a machine direction. The bars or rollers can impinge upon the paper to create a crease oriented parallel to the machine direction of the facing layer. The insulation mat may be separable in the machine direction, and the crease can be imparted so that the separable portions of the insulation mat substantially align with the crease in the facing layer to allow the facing and insulation to be separated together. The creasing bars or rollers can be adjustable and controlled manually. Control may also be automated. A method of using the apparatus is also disclosed.

The dispenser includes a pipe having a first end which is attachable to the delivery conduit and second end which carries a deflector for compressing a flow of fibrous insulation discharged through the outlet of the pipe and for changing the direction of flow of fibrous insulation compressed thereby. The deflector includes a substantially planar portion disposed at an acute angle with respect to the pipe outlet. The dispenser may also include a second deflector for changing the direction of flow of the compressed fibrous insulation.
