Patent number: 11493165Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to automatic monitor position adjustment. An indication that an application is being launched is received. A preferred monitor position for the application is determined by referencing a data store mapping preferred monitor positions to respective metadata attributes, where the preferred monitor position for the application is determined based on the preferred monitor position being mapped to a first metadata attribute associated with the application within the data store. An actuator associated with the monitor is then instructed to adjust the position of the monitor to the preferred monitor position.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2019Date of Patent: November 8, 2022Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Thomas D. Patent number: 11093769Abstract: An approach for extracting strokes in a free space environment is described. Boundaries are displayed in a free space environment describing at least one two-dimensional surface area. One or more language movements are extracted from the free space environment by a paired ring device and transmitted as images for processing. Haptic feedback is provided to the paired ring device in response to detecting at least one language movement occurring outside of at least one two-dimensional surface area. At least one extracted language movement is input into a character training model.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2018Date of Patent: August 17, 2021Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Eli M. Patent number: 11074928Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes determining a meeting has initialized between a first user and a second user, wherein vocal and video recordings are produced for at least the first user. The method receives the vocal and video recordings for the first user. The method analyzes the vocal and video recordings for the first user according to one or more parameters for speech and one or more parameters for gestures. The method determines one or more emotions and a role in the meeting for the first user based at least on the analyzed vocal and video recordings. The method sends an output of analysis to at least one of the first user and the second user, wherein the output of analysis includes at least the determined one or more emotions and the role in the meeting for the first user.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2018Date of Patent: July 27, 2021Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Eli M. Patent number: 11002958Abstract: A system and method to dynamically control a configuration of parallax barriers includes performing skeletal tracking, using a skeletal tracking system, to determine a position of each viewer of content displayed by an image source. One of the parallax barriers among the parallax barriers is determined as being most closely associated with a viewing angle of each viewer, and the one of the parallax barriers is adjusted as needed to display the content as a three-dimensional image to one or more of the viewers with the viewing angle that is the most closely associated.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2017Date of Patent: May 11, 2021Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Eli M. Patent number: 10784830Abstract: Audio information of audio content being listened to by a user is received. An aspect of a listening environment of the user is identified. A volume preset, based on the audio information and the aspect of the listening environment, is determined to be available. A first volume of the audio content being listened to by the user is determined to be different from the volume preset. The first volume of the audio content is adjusted to a second volume.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2019Date of Patent: September 22, 2020Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Eli M. Patent number: 10776097Abstract: A method includes grouping nodes into a first level clusters. For each first level cluster, a leader node is promoted. For each first level cluster that has a size exceeding a predetermined threshold, nodes of the cluster are grouped into second level clusters. For each second level cluster, a leader node is promoted. If no single node is trusted to patch its cluster, a fragmentation scheme is applied to enable nodes to check validity of the receiving patch. This grouping scheme is applied in a hierarchical manner until the size of all clusters are found to be under the predetermined threshold. A software patch is transmitted to the leader nodes of the first level clusters, which then transmit the software patch to next level leaders (if any) or to all other nodes within the same cluster. The patch transmission is done in a hierarchical manner for subsequent levels.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2018Date of Patent: September 15, 2020Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Kam Hou U, Angel A. Patent number: 10714926Abstract: A power source apparatus and associated method for protecting an electrical device such as a mobile device from an electric shortage are disclosed. The power source apparatus can be provided within the electrical device to provide power to device components. The power source apparatus can include a power source such as a battery, one or more triggering components, and a disconnection component. The triggering component(s) can be connected to a moisture/fluid detection circuit of the electrical device. Upon receiving an input signal indicative of detected moisture/fluid within the electrical device, the triggering component(s) send a disconnection signal to the disconnection component which may be a solenoid. The disconnection component disconnects the power source from device circuitry of the electrical device. The power source apparatus can also include a reconnection component that can be manually actuated by a user or automatically actuated to reconnect the power source to the device circuitry.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2017Date of Patent: July 14, 2020Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Dominic L. DeMarco, Thomas D. Fitzsimmons, Troy A. Flagg, Ryan P. Golden

Patent number: 10600329Abstract: In an approach to providing feedback to a user using a wearable computing device, a computer records an activity being performed by a user operating a wearable computing device, and identifies the activity being performed by the user. The computer retrieves performance data corresponding to the activity being performed by the user, and determines, based on the retrieved performance data and the recorded activity being performed by the user, whether the user deviates from the retrieved performance data. Responsive to determining the user deviates from the retrieved performance data, the computer transmits, based on the retrieved performance data, performance feedback to the user.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2016Date of Patent: March 24, 2020Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Eli M. Patent number: 10328824Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and system for enacting various driving profiles based on identifying the age and gender of the user. Initially, identifying information is acquired from a user of a vehicle. An identification program determines whether the driver is known, by comparing the identifying information to a set of stored identifying information. If the driver of the vehicle is known, as the identifying information from the user is similar to stored identifying information, then a specific driver profile associated with the specific driver is activated. If the driver is not known, as the identifying information from the user of the vehicle is not similar to the stored identifying information, then the age and gender of the user of the vehicle is determined. Based on the determined age and gender of the driver of the vehicle, various vehicle setting ranges are enacted.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2017Date of Patent: June 25, 2019Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Eli M.
