  • Patent number: 5654255
Abstract: Plant growth regulator (PGR) compositions include a plant growth regulating effective mixture of (A) a N,N-dimethyl piperidinium salt (preferably, mepiquat chloride), (B) a hexitol (preferably, myo-inositol), and optionally (C) a compound which promotes cytokinesis in plant cells (i.e., a cytokinin). The hexitol and cytokinin are most preferably provided collectively in the composition by the presence of an effective amount of coconut milk. Synergistic results in terms of enhanced cotton lint yields are obtained by applying the PGR compositions of this invention to growing cotton plants.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 14, 1996
Date of Patent: August 5, 1997
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
Inventors: Thomas D. O'Neal, David E. Millhouse, Wilhelm Rademacher

  • Patent number: 4643755
Abstract: The invention is a novel method for the control of the relative stem growth of graminaceous crops, comprising applying to the foliage, stems, roots or seeds of said plants, or to the soil in which said plants are grown, a plant growth regulating amount of a substituted phenylnitramine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 21, 1981
Date of Patent: February 17, 1987
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: Thomas D. O'Neal, Prithvi R. Bhalla, Barrington Cross
  • Patent number: 4367339
Abstract: There are provided di- tri- and tetrasubstituted N-nitroaniline compounds and inorganic and organic salts thereof which are effective for increasing axillary branching, improving canopy and enhancing flowering of herbaceous ornamental plants and graminaceous crops, leguminous crops, cotton and sunflowers. The salts are also effective as yield enhancing agents and lodging inhibitors for the crops.

  • Patent number: 4297126
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for regulating the growth of crop plants by applying to the foliage, roots, stems, seeds or to soil in which the crop plants are grown, an effective plant growth regulating amount of an imidazolinyl benzamide having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is alkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 ; R.sub.2 is alkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.6, cycloalkyl C.sub.3 -C.sub.6, alkenyl C.sub.2 -C.sub.4, phenyl, halophenyl or benzyl; and when R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are taken together with the carbon to which they are attached they may form cycloalkyl C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 optionally substituted with methyl; R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each individually represent hydrogen, alkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.4, alkenyl C.sub.3 -C.sub.5, alkynyl C.sub.3 -C.sub.5, or benzyl; and when R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represent different substituents, the optical isomers thereof.
