    Abstract: A traction motor may comprise a stator and a rotor rotatably mounted within the stator. The rotor may include a cylindrical core having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a plurality of receiving holes extending through the cylindrical core. The rotor may further include a plurality of copper bars each inserted in a respective one of the receiving holes of the cylindrical core and having terminal ends extending beyond the top surface and the bottom surface of the cylindrical core. The rotor may further include aluminum end rings cast around the terminal ends of the copper bars. The traction motor may have a size and power range suitable for use with a diesel-electric locomotive.
