  • Patent number: 6477010
Abstract: A data storage tape cartridge including a housing, at least one tape reel, and a storage tape. The housing defines a top face, a bottom face, a front, a back, and opposing sides. Further, the housing forms a tape identification notch, a write-select notch, a first misinsertion notch, and a second misinsertion notch. The tape identification notch extends from the front of the housing along one of the opposing sides. The write-select notch is formed in the front of the housing and is configured to maintain an insert piece. The first misinsertion notch is formed in the front of the housing and is configured for clearance about a tape drive switch. Similarly, the second misinsertion notch is formed in the front of the housing and is configured for clearance about a tape drive switch. The first and second misinsertion notches are substantially aligned. The at least one tape reel is rotatably disposed within the housing. Finally, the storage tape is maintained by the at least one tape reel.

  • Patent number: 6031676
Abstract: A tape deck system uses four sensors to read features on a tape cartridge to determine control operations. A first sensor determines and a second sensor indicate a condition from a set comprising standard tape cartridge present with file protect, standard tape cartridge present without file protect, cleaning cartridge present, and a standard cartridge quiescent state. The remaining two sensors are used with a special cartridge. The special cartridge has features that indicate, to the first two sensors, that the tape deck system is in the standard cartridge quiescent state. A third and fourth sensors then read features on the special cartridge indicating cartridge type and file protect status. This system allows special cartridges, such as those that may contain thin tape, to only be accessed by tape deck systems equipped to handle the special cartridges. The sensor for indicating the special cartridge type may be modified to also indicate that the cartridge is properly seated in the tape deck.

  • Patent number: 4332465
Abstract: A balanced photoconductor usage control system for an electrophotographic copier/printer machine having a photoconductor containing thereon two page images areas, is employed to solve the problem of excessively high background level due to toner filming. More specifically, the control system includes memory means for retaining a location of a last page image area which was last used to produce a page, and control means jointly responsive to a presence of a full page condition in a page buffer, and to the memory means to effect production of a next page on an alternate page image area.
