  • Patent number: 7520869
Abstract: A self-suturing anchor device includes a base having a securement mechanism. The securement mechanism includes one or more resilient pockets in which are placed a plurality of looped sutures. The securement mechanism and looped sutures facilitate automatic securement of a catheter relative to the self-suturing anchor device. In at least one embodiment, the looped sutures are also threaded through loops in another corresponding looped suture, such that each looped sutures slidably tighten in concert with one another. When at least a portion of the securement mechanism is moved, at least one of the plurality of looped sutures is tensioned and closes against a securement point on the catheter. A catheter can be secured in a self-suturing anchor device in a quick and efficient manner with minimal effort.

  • Patent number: 7470256
Abstract: A self-suturing anchor device includes rotatable ring adapted to automatically deploy sutures to secure a catheter. The rotatable ring is utilized in connection with a ratchet mechanism which allows movement of the rotatable ring in a first direction while preventing movement of the rotatable ring in the opposite direction. The rotatable ring is also utilized in connection with a bearing member to facilitate smooth and efficient rotation of the rotatable ring. An extension saddle is utilized to provide a desired amount of displacement between suture securement points to minimize pivotal movement of the catheter. The rotatable ring is wider than its height to minimize kinking of the catheter tube and to relieve pressure when pressed between the patient and a support surface. In another embodiment, a plurality of scallops or other gripping members are utilized to facilitate easy gripping and rotation of the rotatable ring.

  • Patent number: 7182750
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a modular pressure infuser apparatus adapted to allow a user to modify the configuration of the pressure infuser apparatus by utilizing one or more interchangeable manual and/or automatic pumps to inflate a pressure infuser bag of the pressure infuser apparatus. The modular configuration of the pressure infuser apparatus permits the user to detach and reattach a motorized pump and/or a manual pump to the pressure infuser bag quickly, easily, and efficiently without decreasing the air pressure of the pressure infuser bag. By providing selectively removable pump modules, the user can select the configuration of the pressure infuser apparatus that is best adapted to the needs of the patient. A pressure release valve is configured to regulate the pressure of the pressure infuser bag.

  • Patent number: 7152580
Abstract: A secondary engine speed control mechanism for small internal combustion engines, including an operator control which is manually operable to override an engine running speed which is set by the engine's primary speed control mechanism and governed by the governor. The secondary speed control mechanism may be selectively actuated by the operator in anticipation of an increased engine load to provide a temporary increase or “boost” to engine speed above the set, governed engine running speed. The secondary speed control mechanism may be either mechanically or electrically actuated, and may include an operator actuated, trigger-type mechanism or an electrical switch located on the handle of an implement with which the engine is used.

  • Patent number: 6394977
Abstract: A pressure gauge for displaying the magnitude of fluid pressure generated within a syringe or another pressurized system. The pressure gauge is removably attachable to a syringe, and may be sterilized for reuse after each medical procedure. A piezoresistive transducer senses fluid pressure and generates an electrical signal that changes in response to changes in said fluid pressure. The electrical signal is converts d to digital signals by a microprocessor. A stepper motor responds to the digital signals to control a pointer that moves across a dial to display the magnitude of the fluid pressure. A small lithium battery that can withstand high temperatures supplies electrical power to the pressure gauge. A housing unit, comprising stainless steel and a transparent window, encases the components of the pressure gauge. After use, the pressure gauge is placed in an autoclave, thereby sterilizing the pressure gauge for reuse.

  • Patent number: 5807321
Abstract: A system and method for electronically monitoring and displaying digital flow data relevant to the administration of a parenteral fluid, such as a contrast medium, to a patient is disclosed. The system includes a disposable fluid flow indicator, adapted to be detachably connected in fluid communication with a contrast media source. The fluid flow indicator measures the amount of contrast media dispensed from the source and administered to a patient, and provides an indication of the amount dispensed based on the movement of a displacement indicator. Also disclosed is an electronic controller, which is adapted to be detachably connected to the fluid flow indicator. The controller includes a sensor interface circuit, which operably interfaces the electronic controller circuitry with the fluid flow indicator so that the fluid flow measurement indicator is optically detected by the sensor circuit, which in turn generates a representative electrical flow signal.

  • Patent number: 5449345
Abstract: An electronically controlled syringe system for connection to a balloon catheter or other balloon-type member and for monitoring, displaying and optionally recording inflation or deflation data when the syringe system is used to inflate or deflate the balloon of the catheter or other balloon-type member. A syringe having a barrel and a syringe plunger is selectively operable to increase fluid pressure applied to the balloon catheter or other balloon member by sliding the plunger further into the barrel. Positive pressure applied to the balloon catheter or member is released by withdrawing the syringe plunger toward the rear of the barrel. A piezoresistive semiconductor transducer placed in fluid communication with the fluid pressure applied by the syringe, senses the fluid pressure and outputs an electrical signal representative of that pressure.

  • Patent number: 5449344
Abstract: A syringe apparatus for use with balloon-tipped catheters is disclosed having a pressure gauge and timer assembly. In one mode, the timer assembly displays the duration of a current event of inflation or deflation, and the duration of the most recent past event of inflation or deflation. In another mode, the timer assembly displays historical information showing the event number and duration of past events of inflation and deflation. The pressure gauge display and the timer assembly display are situated conveniently on the syringe assembly and in proximity to one another so as to enable a syringe operator to substantially simultaneously monitor durations of inflation and deflation without the need for an assistant, yet without requiring purchase or use of computerized monitors. In another mode, the timer assembly can be detached from the syringe assembly at the completion of an inflation procedure and then reused with another syringe assembly.

  • Patent number: 5118907
Abstract: A system for interconnecting two medical devices with a flexible elongated interconnection member, such as a cord, a wire, or a tube, includes two separates lengths of the elongated member and a selectively releasable electric coupling therebetween. One or both lengths of the elongated member contain a cord dispenser which comprises a portion of that length of the cord wound into a tubular coil and a tubular casing coaxially encircling the coil and having openings at opposite ends thereof. Preferably, the inner surface of the casing is in gripping engagement with the outer surface of the coil. Depending on the manner in which the coil is wound, the cord and the coil can be controllably unwound from the coil in the casing by withdrawing an end of the cord from one or both exit openings in the casing. Preferably, however, one end of the cord passes longitudinally through the center of the coil from a winding at one end to an exit opening in the casing at the other end.
