Patent number: 6917580Abstract: The present invention relates to a cellular communication system for wireless telecommunication on the basis of an OFDM scheme, comprising a plurality of base stations B, whereby at least one base station B is allocated to each cell C of the communication system and whereby information communicated from the base stations comprises data parts and pilot parts. The present invention further relates to a method for operating such a cellular communication system. Publication number: 20040196916Abstract: This proposal describes an optimized synchronization (SYNCH) symbol sequence to be used in transmission systems, which are currently under standardization. The synchronization symbol is constructed using specially designed OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) symbols with an optimized sequence, which is mapped onto the modulated subcarriers. The resulting synchronization symbol consists of several repetitions in the time domain. Using the proposed sequence the resulting synchronization symbol achieves a high timing detection and frequency offset estimation accuracy. Furthermore the burst is optimized to achieve a very low envelope fluctuation (low Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) and a very low dynamic range to reduce complexity on the receiver and to save time and frequency acquisition time in the receiver. The proposed sequence is furthermore optimized with respect to all other synchronization symbols that are used to construct the synchronization and training preambles for the BCCH-DLCHs.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 20, 2004Publication date: October 7, 2004Inventors: Ralf Bohnke, Thomas Dolle, Tino Konschak

Patent number: 6609010Abstract: A dual frequency band transceiver (10) is provided adapted to be operated into different transmission frequency bands. A control unit (8) controls a switching (6) between a first transmission frequency band FC1 and a second transmission frequency band FC2, wherein the control unit (8) changes correspondingly and simultaneously to the switching (6) in the first transmission frequency band FC1 and the second transmission frequency band FC2 between a first and a second channel bandwidth. The first and the second channel bandwidth satisfies the following equation: n*BC1=m*BC2, wherein BC1 and BC2 are the first and the second channel bandwidth, respectively, and n and m are an integer values starting with 1.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 1999Date of Patent: August 19, 2003Assignee: Sony International (Europe) GmbHInventors: Thomas Dolle, Veselin Brankovic, Tino Konschak, Dragan Krupezevic

Publication number: 20020034213Abstract: The present invention relates to a device (10) for receiving signals in a wireless orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) system and to a channel estimation method in such a system. The data symbols and pilot symbols are transmitted in frequency subcarriers and timeslots, whereby pilot symbols are transmitted in a continuous stream within at least one frequency subcarrier. A channel estimation for a data symbol is performed on the basis of received pilot symbols using a filter including a common phase error correction value from the continuous stream pilot symbol in the same timeslot as the data symbol to be channel estimated.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 30, 2001Publication date: March 21, 2002Inventors: Zhaocheng Wang, Richard Stirling-Gallacher, Thomas Dolle

Patent number: 6160821Abstract: According to the present invention a system and a method for synchronising digital communication systems is proposed. Thereby a reference symbol RS consisting of a sequence of a plurality of synchronisation patterns SP and followed by data symbols, which are both modulated (13) on a RF-frequency is provided. The received reference symbol (RS) is correlated with a delayed version of itself and the correlation peak is identified giving the position and complex correlation result that can be used for the timing and frequency synchronisation of a digital communication system. According to the present invention the phase of the last and/or the first of the plurality of synchronisation patterns SP of said reference symbol RS (or a part or a multiple thereof) is phase shifted, e.g. by 180.degree., before the transmission step.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1998Date of Patent: December 12, 2000Assignee: Sony International (Europe) GmbHInventors: Thomas Dolle, Tino Konschak
