  • Patent number: 7290668
Abstract: A bicomponent fiber wick is provided for use in processing an analyte fluid. The bicomponent fiber wick comprises a self-sustaining, fluid transmissive body comprising a plurality of bundled, crimped, bicomponent fibers bonded to each other at spaced apart contact points. Each bicomponent fiber has a fiber structure comprising a first fiber component formed from a polyamide material and a second fiber component. The fibers collectively define tortuous fluid flow paths through the fluid transmissive body, the fiber structure being configured for controlling flow of the analyte fluid through the fluid transmissive body with at least a portion of the first fiber component in contact with the analyte fluid.

  • Patent number: 4513599
Abstract: A modular unit for mounting in a mill, which unit has a housing containing a pinion fixed to a shaft with a drive gear extending from the housing. The housing partially encircles the periphery of the pinion and has an upper member for mounting a thrust bearing on one end of the shaft and a lower capsule plate element mounting another bearing opposite the thrust bearing, which plate is snugly received in an aperture in the mill through which the drive gear passes. The modular unit is secured to the mill along at least two planes in a manner to completely enclose the pinion and gear and to permit disassembly thereof through axial and radial movements of the unit relative to the axis of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4167105
Abstract: A rolling mill section for rolling or roughing slab, plate, billet or structural section is provided with a load sensing arrangement for determining if the extent of non-synchronization between the respective drive motors of the rougher stand and the edger stand is sufficient to cause significant tensile or compressive loading in the member being rolled, as it passes between the two stands. The existence of such loading is determined by providing a coupling or utilizing existing mechanical connection of the one or both structures of the stands, and measuring reactive forces generated thereat by the passage of the member being rolled, tending to displace one stand relative to the other. A readout from the force measuring means is used to control the relative torques of the respective stand motors so as to promote synchronicity of the two drives, in order to reduce damaging overloads in the edger or in the rougher which otherwise result when significant lack of synchronicity is present.
