Patent number: 7448333Abstract: A seeder (10) includes multiple cutting head units (30) pivotally mounted to a jack shaft (24) of a frame (12) and spring biased downwardly by hold downs (80). Each multiple cutting head unit (30) includes multiple roller blades (36) received on an axle (34) rotatably mounted in a carrier (32) and in gearing relation to the jack shaft (24). The roller blades (36) include a series of oppositely formed, circumferentially spaced radially extending indentations (36a) extending from a continuous, smooth periphery at a constant extent from the axle (34). Fingers (46) extending between the roller blades (36) are pivotally mounted to the carrier (32) to adjust the depth of the slits formed by the roller blades (36). Each hose (98) extending from a seed box (96) diverts seed into adjacent slits immediately after the roller blades (36).Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2005Date of Patent: November 11, 2008Assignee: Turfco Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Scott Kinkead, Terrence R. Bondeson, Tom Fiske, Thomas E. Isaman, Kenneth Sylvester, Steven Ferguson, John Blackburn Kinkead

Patent number: 7347320Abstract: A top dresser (10) includes sheeting (70) in the form of an endless belt passing around first and second drums (148, 160) and a bed (166) including a plurality of rollers (106). Continuous V-shaped guides (122) are received in pulleys (120) on the drums (148, 160) for tracking the endless belt. A blocking device (112) in the form of a rod is slid in the mid-frame (102) to prevent the shafts (108) of the rollers (106) from axially sliding against their bias from their operative positions to their installation positions. Ledges (116) having friction reducing strips (118) extend over the shafts (108) of the rollers (106). A compound gear (180) in gearing relation with the second drum (160) and in driving relation with a spindle (82) of a brush (74) is rotatably mounted to an arm (174) pivotally mounted to the second drum (160). The spindle (82) includes two portions (82a, 82b) removably connected by a coupler (76), with the first portion (82a) being cantilevered supported from the side frame (100).Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2004Date of Patent: March 25, 2008Assignee: Turfco Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Thomas E. Isaman, David V. Cress, Steven M. Ferguson

Patent number: 6962209Abstract: A sod cutter (10) is disclosed including a frame (12) formed by welding the free edges of mount, frame and end plates (46a, 46b 46c) bent relative to one of two side plates (46) to the corresponding edges of the other side plate (48). An axle assembly (160) is pivotal relative to the frame (12) by a depth adjustment lever (198) between a working position where wheels (16) carried by the axle assembly (160) engage tubular members (168) slideably and nonrotatably received on a drive shaft (166) and a transport position where the wheels (16) are spaced from the tubular members (168). A U-shaped handlebar (210) is positionable between an operating position for grasping during operation and a storage position for lifting and handling. A U-shaped control (212) is pivotably mounted in front of and above the U-shaped handlebar (210) for actuating the throttle of the engine (18).Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2001Date of Patent: November 8, 2005Assignee: Turfco Manufacturing Inc.Inventors: Thomas E. Isaman, Terrence R. Bondeson, Andrew Hawkins

Patent number: 6817552Abstract: A broadcast spreading top dresser (10) includes a diverter (200) which can be positioned in an upper position for light applications and a lower position for heavy applications, with the diverter (200) extending through a slot (210) in an upper sheet (58) of the spinner assembly (40) and beyond and below the upper sheet (58) in the lower position. The leading edges (204) of the diverter (200) are spaced from the circular disks (154) of the spinners (54) intermediate the radial position that the material is dispensed unto the spinners (54) and the maximum rearward extent of the circular disks (154). The lower edges of the diverter (200) extend at differing distances into the thickness of the propelled top dressing material.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2002Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Turfco Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Scott Kinkead, Thomas E. Isaman, Donavon D. Kotula, Steven Ferguson

Publication number: 20040154811Abstract: An aerator that allows the operator to make a turn with the machine while the tines are still in contact with the turf through the use of a differential shaft and brakes that enhance the maneuverability of the machine. The aerator is fitted with a mechanical gear type differential on an intermediate drive shaft that provides for automatic, separate and variable rotational motion of the individual halves of the tine shaft. This differential apparatus also provides constant and equal torque application to both sides of the tine wheel assembly simultaneously while the machine is operating. This insures that tine penetration into the turf is equal on both sides at all times. The tine shaft halves are designed and mounted in such manner as to allow each half (left and right sides) to be driven by separate chains from the differential shaft. This design results in a desired variation in the speed of rotation of the two halves that facilitates turning the unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 9, 2004Publication date: August 12, 2004Inventors: John B. Kinkead, Loren F. Hansen, Donavon D. Kotula, Thomas E. Isaman, Robert Brophy
