  • Patent number: 6971885
Abstract: An interconnect device for electrically interconnecting two components is disclosed. According to various embodiments, the interconnect device includes a frame having a upper side and a lower side, a first plurality of beam contacts on the upper side for connection to contacts of the first component, and a second plurality of contacts on the lower side of the frame for connection to contacts of the second component. The beam contacts on the upper side of the frame are arranged so that the sum of the sideways wipe forces caused by compression of the beam contacts on the upper side due to connection of the first component to the interconnect device approximately equals zero.

  • Patent number: 6733303
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved electrical connector for electrically connecting a first component to a second component. The connector includes a plurality of electrical conductors partially embedded in a dielectric frame. The frame is formed with a first side and a second side opposed to the first side. Each conductor includes a first finger, a second finger and a midsection connecting the first finger to the second finger. The midsection of each conductor is molded in place within the frame. The first finger of each conductor extends away from the first side of the frame while the second finger of each conductor extends away from the second side of the frame. The midsections of adjacent conductors can be spaced apart within the frame at distances of less than 1.5 mm.

  • Patent number: 5525064
Abstract: A stackable connector for connecting the conductors of stacked substrates such as printed circuit boards is provided. The connector includes an elongated connector body having a plurality of electrical contacts allowing electrical signals to be passed between the stacked substrates. The connector also includes a plurality of threaded studs and non-conductive nuts allowing the connector body to be securely fastened between the stacked substrates without creating unwanted electrical connections between or within the stacked substrates. The connector also functions as a means for positioning or locating adjacent substrates.

  • Patent number: 5484295
Abstract: A low profile compression electrical connector, for establishing an electrical pathway between two electrical components, includes an insert and a housing. A plurality of connector arms are mounted on a base of the insert, and each connector arm has a first end and a second end. The ends are sufficiently deflectable to allow the connector to fit into a very small space. The housing of the electrical connector is formed with an aperture for receiving and stationarily orienting the base of the insert with respect to the housing. Also, clamps mounted on the housing can be used to hold first and second electrical components, such as printed circuit boards, against the housing and in contact with the ends of the connector arms. Upon engagement of the electrical components with the housing, the ends of the connector arms urge against the electrical components to establish an electrical pathway through the connector arm from the first electrical component to the second electrical component.

  • Patent number: 5161982
Abstract: A connector assembly in accordance with the present invention includes a base which can be positioned or mounted on a substrate. At least one contact beam is cantilevered on the base and has a deflectable free end which is distanced from the base and a fixed end which is attached to the base. At least one rigid reactive beam extends from the base to counteract the forces which are generated on the base when the free end of the contact beam is deflected to move from a first configuration wherein the beam is unstressed, and into a second configuration wherein the beam is stressed. Further, the connector assembly is positioned on the substrate so that when a printed circuit board is joined with the substrate, the free end of the contact beam is urged against the printed circuit board to move the contact beam from its first configuration into its second configuration to establish electrical contact between the contact beam and the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 5147207
Abstract: An electrical connector for engaging a plurality of contact beams with an electronic substrate includes an elongated support body on which the contact beams are individually attached as cantilevers. A plurality of mounting points are formed on the support body to separate the contact beams into segments, and are used for holding the electrical connector against the substrate. Importantly, the contact beams are separated into segments which are of either a first length or a second length. Preferably, in order to more effectively balance the distributed load of the electrical connector against the electronic substrate, the first length is approximately one third the second length and the segments of first length are located at the ends of the support body.
