  • Patent number: 8447735
Abstract: A backup program running on a computing device receives a search query. The backup program transmits the search query to a search program. The backup program receives search results corresponding to the search query from the search program. The search results include a list of data objects stored on a storage device and that satisfy the search query. The backup program backs up one or more selected data objects of the list of data objects. The backup program can periodically and automatically without user interaction retransmit the search query to the search program, and receive updated search results corresponding to the search query from the search program. The updated search results include an updated list of data objects stored on the storage device that satisfy the search query. The backup program can then back up the data objects within the updated list of data objects.

  • Patent number: 7970741
Abstract: A method and apparatus for protecting file data is provided that combines or merges revision based backup with backup based on time intervals. One embodiment is directed to a method for protecting data contained in a file of a computer system, wherein the computer system is useable to create multiple successive file versions. The method comprises the steps of specifying a maximum number of file versions that can be stored collectively at first and second storage locations, and apportioning the maximum number into a first number of file versions and a second number of file versions. The method further comprises storing the most recent of the multiple file versions, up to a number equal to the first number, at the first storage location. A number of file versions respectively created before the stored most recent versions, up to a number equal to the second number, are stored at the second storage location, over a pre-specified time period and in accordance with a pre-specified strategy.

  • Patent number: 4689619
Abstract: Subscriber terminals serviced by a plurality of remotely located two-way addressable cable television systems are polled using polling command signals addressed to the different terminals from a polling center. The polling command signals are sent to the subscriber terminals via their associated headends. Responses from the polled subscriber terminals are successively received at the polling center. The round trip signal propagation times required to communicate the polling command and response signals to and from each of the headends is equalized so that the response from the polled subscriber terminals are received in the same order in which the terminals are addressed by the polling command signals. A uniform delay is inserted after each successive polling command signal to allow for variations in the signal propagation times between the headends and individual subscriber terminals coupled thereto.

  • Patent number: 4477800
Abstract: A cable TV security system utilizes three radio frequency signals as three data communication channels. One downstream channel is provided as a polling channel in available spectrum space in the standard FM band. Two upstream channels are provided in the return portion of the cable spectrum. One of the upstream channels is a polling response channel, and the other is an alarm channel. Subscriber security units transmit on the polling return channel in response to downstream command messages on the polling channel. Alarm conditions are immediately transmitted on the alarm channel so that system response to an alarm condition is fast and substantially independent of the number of subscribers.
