  • Publication number: 20210348348
Abstract: A portable vehicle barrier is transportable to a desired location, unfolded from a compact transport configuration and deployed to provide an effective vehicle barrier that can be used temporarily and then refolded into the compact transport configuration and transported to a remote location for utilization or storage. The vehicle barrier is formed with a central base having front and rear sections that are pivotally hinged to the central base. A barrier member can be selectively activated to rise into an active position and restrain the passage of vehicles. An impact into the barrier member causes the central base to tip in order to drive pointed teeth into the tires of the vehicle and into the underlying road surface and stop the impacting vehicle. The front and rear sections have vertical bars that move into a nesting horizontal position when the front and rear sections are pivoted into the transport position.

  • Patent number: 8382391
Abstract: A roller barrier security system includes a pair of cylindrical concrete roller barriers mounted on a support apparatus in an elevated position to enable movement of the roller barriers onto a roadway to block the movement of traffic. The roller barriers are retained by cables wrapped around the cylindrical rollers and secured by a solenoid. A secondary restraint in the form of pivoted catch members also prevents the rollers from leaving the elevated position. Each catch member is secured by a slide block coupled to a drop weight secured by a trap door controlled by a second solenoid. To allow movement of the rollers, the two solenoids are activated which releases the wrap-around cable and the trap door. The falling drop weight pulls the slide block away from the catch member to allow pivoting thereof, while the released cable allows the rollers to move by gravity onto the roadway surface.

  • Patent number: 7780393
Abstract: A transporter for transporting and deploying vehicle security barriers includes a central carrier that is rotatable between a longitudinal transport orientation and a transverse deployment orientation. A cable lift apparatus is connectable to the security barriers on the ground and operable to lift the barriers into the central carrier irrespective of the orientation of the central carrier. A plurality of pivoted dogs is arranged around the central carrier at vertically spaced levels to define transport positions for the security barriers within the central carrier. The pivoted dogs are mounted to allow the barriers to pass upwardly past the dogs, but not be lowered past the pivoted dogs unless the dogs have been manually pivoted to permit the barriers to be lowered. The barriers can be transported longitudinally on the transporter and deployed transversely through rotation of the central carrier which can rotate ninety degrees to either direction.

  • Patent number: 7320557
Abstract: A vehicle barrier is formed with a barrier gate mounted on a pair of opposing lift arms pivotally connected via pivot shafts to a support structure. A plurality of endless bands are looped around the opposing pivot shafts and positioned to pass through compartments in the barrier gate. The lift arms and the barrier gate may be fabricated from lightweight material, such as thin steel, aluminum or plastic, so that the stopping power of the vehicle barrier is provided by the anchored bands. In permanent or portable configurations, the lightweight barrier gate can be quickly raised by hydraulic cylinders, or other appropriate means, into a deployed position to interfere with the passage of a vehicle over the barrier. The anchoring of the bands at ground or below ground locations on both sides of the barrier provides stopping power without requiring massive barrier structures to be raised and lowered in use.
