Patent number: 11400330Abstract: A fire suppression sprinkler has a deflector with two slots aligned with the deflector support arms. The two slots extend from opposite sides of a periphery of the deflector along a common line which passes though the sprinkler's flow axis. The two slots extend to a point which underlies the sprinkler's nose at the ends of the support arms to which the deflector is attached. Other slots extend from the periphery of the deflector along lines which do not pass through the sprinkler flow axis. The other slots extend to points in spaced relation to the nose. Regions of the deflector periphery surrounding the first and second slots are closer to the flow axis than other regions of the periphery. The area of each of the first and second slots is greater than the area of any other slot in the deflector plate.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2017Date of Patent: August 2, 2022Assignee: Victaulic CompanyInventor: Thomas F. Publication number: 20220008772Abstract: A sprinkler for a fire suppression system includes a deflector plate having five different types of slots extending from a periphery of the plate toward a center of the plate along radially extending lines. The slots are arrow shaped, club shaped and key hole shaped. Arrow head slots which align with frame arms supporting the deflector plate are wider than the thickness of the frame arms. Club shaped and arrow shaped slots proximate the plane of the frame arms are asymmetrical with respect to radial lines extending from the center of the plate, while arrow shaped and key hole shaped slots distal to the plane of the frame arms are symmetrical with respect to radial lines extending from the center of the plate.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2021Publication date: January 13, 2022Inventor: Thomas F. Wancho

Publication number: 20080011491Abstract: A sprinkler for fire suppression systems that produces an orthogonal spray pattern is disclosed. The sprinkler has an exit orifice with a non-round perimeter and a deflector plate having a non-round perimeter. The shape of the deflector plate perimeter may be matched to that of the exit orifice perimeter. Orifice perimeters may be square, rectangular, formed of lobes or interconnected curves, and there may be multiple orifices in the sprinkler.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 22, 2005Publication date: January 17, 2008Applicant: Victaulic Company of AmericaInventors: Lawrence W. Patent number: 5727737Abstract: The horizontal sidewall sprinkler has a sprinkler body with a passage having an outlet and a deflector with a vertical portion supported forwardly of the outlet by a diverging boss at the culmination of frame arms extending from the sprinkler body and a generally horizontal portion with a planar lower surface supported above the vertical portion by integral strips having a reverse curvature. The generally horizontal deflector portion is inclined upwardly from the sprinkler axis at an angle between 0.5.degree. and 5.degree. and the vertical deflector portion has an opening extending across the width of that portion beneath the planar surface of the horizontal portion. The vertical portion also has a central opening beneath the sprinkler axis with a forwardly directed upwardly inclined tab and two further openings on opposite sides with rearwardly directed tabs to distribute liquid in the region beneath the sprinkler.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1996Date of Patent: March 17, 1998Assignee: The Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc.Inventors: Claude P. Bosio, Thomas F. Wancho, Salvatore S. Rachiele

Patent number: 5687914Abstract: In the representative embodiments described in the specification, a pendent sprinkler has a sprinkler body with an axial passage for fire extinguishing liquid and a pair of frame arms supporting a deflector at a location spaced from the end of the axial passage. In order to distribute fire extinguishing liquid substantially uniformly throughout a protected area, the deflector is provided with pairs of tines having ends which are oppositely inclined with respect to the plane of the central portion of the deflector and which extend upwardly from that plane and has further tines intersected by the plane of the sprinkler arms with end portions which are displaced downwardly from the plane of the central portion of the deflector and are inclined upwardly with respect to that plane.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1996Date of Patent: November 18, 1997Assignee: The Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc.Inventors: Claude P. Bosio, Thomas F. Wancho
