  • Patent number: 11001262
Abstract: A method includes controlling an electrified vehicle by automatically commanding an output torque from an electric machine if the electrified vehicle is in park and an engine start or stop request has been received. A road grade may be used to determine whether or not to command the output torque.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 31, 2017
Date of Patent: May 11, 2021
    Assignee: FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLC
Inventors: Justin Reuel Badger, Shunsuke Okubo, Kent Hancock, Thomas Francis Rolewicz, Jr.
  • Patent number: 10391998
Abstract: A method includes controlling an electrified vehicle by automatically engaging a braking device if the electrified vehicle is in park and an engine start or stop request has been received. Controlling the electrified vehicle includes preventing a brake lamp from illuminating during engagement of the braking device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 16, 2016
Date of Patent: August 27, 2019
    Assignee: FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLC

  • Patent number: 6481428
Abstract: In order to provide for reduced internal combustion engine exhaust emissions when cold starting an internal combustion engine, there is provided two methods and systems for cold starting an internal combustion engine, and one method and system for shutting down an internal combustion engine. The methods and systems are directed towards: (1) a preheating of a minimum of one thermally activated sensor within an internal combustion engine prior to cold starting of the internal combustion engine; (2) an autocranking of an internal combustion engine while metering fuel into the internal combustion engine and timing ignition within the internal combustion engine such as to reduce internal combustion exhaust emissions when cold starting the internal combustion engine; and (3) a phased shut down of fuel supply control followed by ignition source control when shutting down an internal combustion engine after operating the internal combustion engine.
