A training application running on the computer instructs a user of the computer to perform an exercise on the computer; and a scoring application running locally in the computer has: a configuration file; a system inspector that determines states of the computer components according to the configuration file as a result of the exercise; and a scoring engine that computes locally a score of a skill of the user related to the topic based on the states of the computer components determined by the system inspector and in accordance with the configuration file.
