  • Publication number: 20200282135
Abstract: An apparatus and method for delivering fluid from a syringe to a subject using a pumping device of a flow control apparatus. The method includes locating the flow control apparatus on a horizontal support surface. Providing the syringe with a volume of fluid including a total amount of preferred nutrient and an amount of non-preferred nutrient liquid. Mounting the syringe relative to the flow control apparatus whereby the syringe is oriented in a generally vertical orientation such that an outlet of the syringe faces upward. Initiating operation of the pumping device to draw the fluid from the syringe for a duration of time to preferentially deliver at least a portion of the total amount of preferred nutrient in the fluid to the subject.

  • Patent number: 9642777
Abstract: Detection of fluid conditions in an administration set. A light source is positioned to transmit an infrared light through administration set tubing and any fluid therein. A light sensor senses the infrared light transmitted through the tubing and generates an output signal. A frequency of the output signal is a function of an intensity of the light transmitted through the tubing. A processor receives and determines the frequency of the output signal, and compares the determined frequency to threshold frequency values to determine whether fluid is in the tubing. The processor also monitors the generated output signal to determine if the frequency of the output signal changes over time, and determines whether fluid is flowing in the tubing as a function of the determined change in frequency.

  • Patent number: 8622613
Abstract: An electronic thermometer includes a probe adapted to be heated by a subject for use in measuring a temperature of the subject. At least one temperature sensor detects a temperature of the probe. An IR emitter emits an infrared signal from the probe. And an IR detector detects the infrared signal emitted by the IR emitter. The detection of the IR signal by the IR detector indicates that the probe is received in a probe cover.

  • Publication number: 20130294941
Abstract: Rotation of a rotatable assembly of a medical pumping apparatus such as a pump rotor of a rotary peristaltic pump is monitored via electromagnetic radiation (e.g., infrared radiation). The rotatable assembly is formed such that it has portions that are reflective and non-reflective with respect to the electromagnetic radiation. A electromagnetic radiation emitter-detector pair is positioned such that as the rotatable assembly rotates, the reflective and non-reflective portions alternately pass through the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the emitter. The detector receives electromagnetic radiation reflected by the reflective portions, but the non-reflective portions absorb or disperse the radiation such that it is not received by the detector. An output circuit provides a signal indicating the position of the rotatable assembly as a function of the electromagnetic radiation received by the detector.

  • Patent number: 8277196
Abstract: A pumping apparatus for use with a pump set to deliver fluid through the pump set includes a housing capable of receiving at least a portion of the pump set. A pumping device is moveably mounted in the housing and includes a motor that turns independently from movement of the pumping device when activated. The pumping device contacting the pump set when the pump set is received by the housing so the pumping device acts on the pump set to produce fluid flow in the pump set upon activation of the motor.
