Patent number: 8034853Abstract: The invention provides a powder coating composition prepared from a combination, the combination comprising: A) at least one binder resin and, optionally at least one curing agent, B) at least one calibrated pigmented liquid, based on at least one pigment, and, C) optionally, at least one pigment and/or extenders and/or additive. The powder coating composition of the invention provides a precise color of the coatings having a desired color with high color stability. Therefore there is no need for additional adjustment tests or re-working procedures, and, therefore, it makes it possible to offer efficient, small-batch manufacture of custom colors, for example, to match a swatch of fabric supplied by a customer.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2009Date of Patent: October 11, 2011Assignees: E.I. du Pont de Nemours and CompanyInventors: Guido R. Patent number: 7264705Abstract: An improved aqueous cathodic electrocoating composition that contains an anti-crater agent which is a water-reducible polyester resin having an acid value less than 40 mg KOH/g. The water-reducible polyester is the reaction product of (1) a hydroxy cyclic carbonate; (2) a polycarboxylic acid anhydride; (3) optional monofunctional epoxy resin; (4) a polyfunctional isocyanate resin; and, (5) a polyamine compound containing tertiary amine and either primary or secondary functionality. The reaction product is neutralized in the presence of acid and water to convert the tertiary amine groups to water-dilutable groups. Hydrolyzable silane groups can also be incorporated into the reaction product to further enhance its crater resistance property. The electrocoat composition produces coatings having a smoother appearance with fewer craters without adversely affecting intercoat adhesion of the cured film to subsequent coating layers applied thereover.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2004Date of Patent: September 4, 2007Assignee: E. I. duPont de Nemours and CompanyInventors: Allisa Gam, Thomas Grawe, Joachim Ruerup, Andreas Fieberg
