Abstract: This invention comprises a method, and the technological means of implementing the method, to produce the ability to read in an infant during the first four years of life. Said technological means enhances the presentation of printed material at the same time that the appropriate sound of speech is presented. Said method comprises the regular use of such presentation during the period when said infant is acquiring language. A parent or caregiver can use this invention in such a way that said infant becomes aware of said printed material as an integral part of linguistic communication. With regular use of this invention, said infant learns to respond appropriately to printed material, using the same mental mechanisms with which said infant learns the spoken language, and in the same period of life.
