  • Patent number: 4169627
Abstract: A retention system is disclosed for securing back and/or cushion seat components (14,16) to a seat frame (12) by a releasable retainer (20). Latches (18,22) are also used to secure both the seat back and cushion in the preferred embodiment. The back is secured to the frame by the latches and is engaged by the cushion such that securement of the cushion by the retainer maintains both the cushion and the back in place on the frame. Each latch includes a latch member (34,80) and a keeper surface that are engaged by relative movement between the associated seat component and the frame so as to provide the latched condition. The retainer includes a retainer member (44) having an intermediate bight section (46) secured to the frame and a pair of deflectable latch legs (48) extending in opposite directions from the bight section. A pair of keepers (50) on the seat cushion are engaged by the deflectable latch legs to secure the cushion to the frame.

  • Patent number: 4070124
Abstract: A rail attachment assembly for attaching an end of a sinuous spring band to a steel rail. A vertical or a horizontal flange of the rail is apertured or cut-out to facilitate passage of an anchor link for band element. The aperture or cut-out is elongated along one axis to permit pivotal movement of the link or band through a substantial arc without interference.

  • Patent number: 4055865
Abstract: A rail attachment assembly for attaching an end of a sinuous spring band to a steel rail. A vertical flange of the rail is provided with pairs of longitudinally spaced apertures to facilitate passage of anchor links or band elements. The steel rail section between the apertures in each pair is deformed inwardly of the flange to permit seating of the heavier gauge band segment or the lighter gauge link segment for rotation about a fixed axis. Where either a link or a spring is employed, noise, grinding and squeeking normally associated with uncontrolled vertical and/or lateral motion and travel of the link or springs; i.e., "wandering", is obviated.

  • Patent number: 3998442
Abstract: A furniture frame construction of the disclosure includes a framework of steel frame members that support a spring assembly for a seat cushion. Front and rear frame members of the framework are fabricated from relatively thin steel stock and have closed cross-sections with projecting flanges secured to each other. End frame members of the framework are also fabricated from relatively thin steel stock with channel cross-sections and interconnect the front and rear frame members with each other. The spring assembly includes a primary spring of the formed wire type extending between the front and rear frame members. The front end of the primary spring includes a fishmouth section that spaces a support section of this spring above the front frame member. The rear end of the primary spring includes a helical coil with a tail that supports the rear end of the support section on the rear frame member. An auxiliary spring of the spring assembly is secured to the lower side of the primary spring support section.
