  • Publication number: 20150011115
Abstract: An electrical connection for an electrical component or electrically heatable honeycomb body, in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes an electrical conductor passing through a metallic jacket of the exhaust system, a bushing and an insulating layer and having an outer connection section with circular cross section. The connection section has a contact surface for connection to a supply line connection piece. The bushing and/or electrical conductor near the bushing can absorb torques up to 3.6, 4.5 or 7 Nm per cm2 of contact surface acting on the connection section and/or an internal or external thread in circumferential direction, by shaping the electrical conductor near the bushing or using structures and/or changes to the cross section or a form-locking construction of the electrical conductor and the bushing. Damage to electrical exhaust components due to external torques, disassembly and maintenance can thus be avoided.

  • Publication number: 20140322090
Abstract: A honeycomb body includes sheet metal layers forming a central current path to a radial connecting pin. A metal casing has an inner periphery and a feedthrough guiding and insulating the pin. The layers are alternate coarsely structured and finely structured or smooth sheets forming a stack with uppermost and lowermost layers forming axial gas channels. The pin is metallically connected to two or all of the layers directly or through an intermediate piece by an electrically conductive or welded connection. The current path has an electrical resistance per unit length in the connection region being greater than an average electrical resistance per unit length in the stack. The uppermost layer runs approximately parallel to the casing over 35% or 40% of the inner periphery and is separated from the casing by an air gap. Simple manufacture of a highly uniform, reliably operating, electrically heatable honeycomb body is thus possible.

  • Patent number: 8615985
Abstract: A method for providing a reducing agent-containing gas flow in the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes providing at least one reducing agent precursor, evaporating the precursor to provide a gas flow, at least partially heating the gas flow to temperatures of at least 250° C., at least partially converting the precursor in the gas flow to a reducing agent and adding the reducing agent-containing gas flow to the exhaust of the engine. The method and a device provide a reducing agent-containing gas flow in a quantity being easily controllable and adaptable to dynamic changes especially in exhaust systems of mobile applications such as automobiles. A temperature of a first zone is kept at 150° C. or just below while a temperature of a second zone is kept at more than 300° C. A hydrolysis catalytic converter is hardly cooled upon receiving the precursor as a vapor, positively affecting the method.

  • Patent number: 8357332
Abstract: A device for evaporating at least one of the following reactants: a reducing agent precursor solution and a reducing agent precursor, includes at least one electrically heatable heating zone having at least one electrically operable heating element with a heating resistor that is self-regulated about a significant temperature. A method and the device for evaporating a reactant allow a simple control of an evaporation process, especially of a urea/water solution, to provide a reducing agent, especially in an SCR process. The heating resistors have a significant temperature that corresponds to a control temperature of the heating resistor. The need for additional control electronics can be removed by adjusting a correspondingly steep curve within a range.

  • Patent number: 8155509
Abstract: A device and method for providing a gaseous substance mixture which includes at least one reducing agent and/or at least one reducing agent precursor, includes a reservoir for an aqueous solution which includes at least one reducing agent precursor that can be flow connected to an evaporator chamber, and a device for dosing the aqueous solution in the evaporator chamber. A device can heat the evaporator chamber to a temperature higher than or equal to a critical temperature, in which the aqueous solution is at least partially evaporated. The device and method enable reducing agent to be provided for selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust of an internal combustion engine. Preferably, an evaporator unit is configured as the evaporator chamber and a hydrolysis catalytic converter is disposed outside the exhaust system. As a result, the size of the hydrolysis catalytic converter is reduced, allowing compact construction.

  • Patent number: 8012244
Abstract: A method for removing particulates from a gas stream includes providing a gas-permeable filter layer having subregions with a parameter of differing magnitudes in the direction of the layer thickness. This parameter relates at least to the porosity, the fiber diameter of fibers or the fiber type content of the filter layer. The gas stream is divided into partial gas streams which are each passed through different subregions of the filter layer. Fiber layers, particulate filters, exhaust systems and vehicles based on this method are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7986870
Abstract: A device and a method for providing a gaseous substance mixture including at least one of a reducing agent and/or a reducing agent precursor, include a reservoir for an aqueous solution including at least one reducing agent precursor, from which the aqueous solution can be delivered into at least one metering line having a dispensing opening by a delivery device, and a device for heating the metering line above a critical temperature greater than the boiling temperature of water. Complete evaporation of an aqueous solution including urea and subsequent hydrolysis to form a substance mixture including ammonia, are carried out. The substance mixture is metered as a reducing agent into an SCR catalytic converter. Carrying out the evaporation outside the exhaust system uses considerably smaller hydrolysis catalytic converters, which is space-saving and cost-saving compared to conventional devices for providing a reducing agent for selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides.

  • Patent number: 4632512
Abstract: A variable laser beam attenuator for typographical composing and printing machines is disposed in the optical axis of a laser light source emitting polarized light of only one polarization. A rotatable filter wheel having a plurality of absorption filters therein for obtaining a coarse adjustment is followed by a fine adjustment means comprising two plane-parallel glass plates disposed in a mutually symmetrically inclined manner in a holder for infinitely variable attenuation without deflection of the laser light beam. The inclination of the glass plates is selected such that the angle of laser beam incidence is approximately equal to the Brewster Angle. The holder is adapted to pivot together with the glass plates as a unit, about the optical axis.
