  • Publication number: 20030089693
Abstract: A method and apparatus for welding is disclosed. The method includes sensing the status of a trigger between an on position and an off position. A system latch is set or released based on the trigger status and the latch status. The system latches on when the trigger is held for a predetermined time (and the latch was previously off). The latch is released when the trigger is pulled and released when the latch was previously on. When the latch is off, pulling the trigger turns the system on, and releasing the trigger before the predetermined time turns the system off. The latch may also be released when welding current drops below a threshold. The time might not start until after welding current is flowing. A welding wire feed speed control potentiometer on a torch is also disclosed. The range of the torch potentiometer is from a minimum to a value dependent on the control panel welding wire feed speed. A run-in wire feed speed control is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5539952
Abstract: The present invention is an air operated fluid handling apparatus for cleaning lithographic presses. It provides a printing press operator with a device for both dispensing ink solvents and removing spent fluids used in the printing process. Compressed air is regulated and directed to a T-section connector. One conduit extends from the connector to provide pressure in an ink-solvent container. Another conduit extends from the connector to a venturi which is used to create a vacuum in a used-fluid container. A conduit extends from each container and connects to a light weight flexible hose. Connected to the opposite end of the flexible hose is a valve and nozzle assembly that allows the press operator to alternate between dispensing ink solvent and remove spent fluid. With this apparatus the press operator can effectively move from printing head to printing head dispensing ink solvent and removing used fluids as necessary for ink train and dampening system cleanup.

  • Patent number: 5454310
Abstract: A segmented oscillating fluid evaporator roller for removing excess moisture from the ink in the ink train or dampener system rollers of a printing press. The segmented oscillating roller consists of a hollow shaft having air slots along its length and into which pressurized air is admitted. Rotating and oscillating around the hollow shaft on bearings is a roller shell having roller segments attached thereon. Said roller segments run against and are frictionally driven by an inked roller in the press. Between the roller segments and through the roller shell are air orifices through which the pressurized air is expelled. The pressurized air may be heated to promote moisture evaporation. To ensure the air flows from the air slots of the hollow shaft to the air orifices of the roller shell there is an air channel tube. The air being expelled from the segmented oscillator roller can be directed to impinge on the surface of the driving roller by rotating the hollow shaft and air channel tube.

  • Patent number: 5134935
Abstract: An improved lithographic dampener of the type having continuous plate/form roller/metering roller contact, adaptable to a variety of press configurations and operating speeds, employs a friction-driven oscillator roller that distributes added dampening liquid and the ink/liquid emulsions on the metering roller, to avoid continuing patterns which might cause ghosting in printed images. The dampener has a simple drawer-like configuration, with an open front for improved range of form roller/plate contact. A pan with a remote supply of dampening liquid, is located under the rollers such that the metering roller surface contacts and picks up liquid from a pool in the pan. Simplified seal dams at the ends of the form/metering rollers' nip keep the reservoir of liquid in that nip, yet minimize wear of the seal configuration. A slide block mounting of the metering roller and oscillator rollers allows independent adjustment of pressure at the form/metering rollers' nip, and at the metering/oscillator rollers' nip.

  • Patent number: 5095338
Abstract: A developer unit which develops an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive member used in an electrophotographic printing machine. The developer unit uses a developer material which ages during the life of the electrophotographic printing machine. Additional developer material having at least carrier granules and toner particles, is supplied to the developer material in the developer unit to extend the life of the developer material. Discharge of developer material from the developer unit is controlled by a permanent magnet and an electromagnet positioned adjacent an exit port in the developer unit. The permanent magnet generates a magnetic flux field in the region of the exit port to form a developer material curtain which prevents the passage of developer material from the exit port. When the electromagnet is energized, it generates a magnetic flux field which attracts developer material from the developer material curtain.

  • Patent number: 4456370
Abstract: An apparatus which controls the electrical charging of a photoconductive member used in an electrophotographic printing machine. The apparatus has a pair of corona generating devices. The second corona generating device detects the level of charge on the photoconductive surface after the charging thereof by the first corona generating device. In response to the detected charge level, the second corona generating device transmits a control signal to the first corona generating device so as to regulate the charge on the photoconductive member.
