The methods involve: establishing, between two VPN endpoints, a plurality of VPN tunnels through the transport network, including at least a default VPN tunnel associated with a first QoS bearer and an alternate VPN tunnel associated with a second QoS bearer; receiving and analyzing a data block; applying a VPN policy to assign the data block to either default VPN tunnel or alternate VPN tunnel; and encapsulating the data block in a transport data block including at least one indicator. The indicator specifies whether the transport data block is to be communicated by the transport network using the first QoS bearer or second QoS bearer.

    Abstract: A method for registration and maintenance of a data connection using a proxy wireless network service involves registering a multi-network terminal on a first network that is made up of a first network infrastructure. The method includes transmitting registration information for a second network to a proxy component that is part of the first network infrastructure. The transmission of the registration information causes the proxy component to forward said registration information to an agent component that is part of the second network that is made up of a second network infrastructure. The method also includes receiving a registered service from the second network based on the registration information that was transmitted to the first network infrastructure. The method also includes transmitting a message to the second network and receiving the registered service from the second network in response to the message.

A common group metadata stream is generated which includes metadata information from the plurality of metadata fields. The common group metadata stream is communicated to user equipment devices (UEDs) operated by users who may have an interest in video streams. Upon receipt of a demand for a first user video stream based on information contained in the common group metadata stream, a first user video stream is generated and communicates to a UED.

In cases where a geographic area is shadowed from a base station and communication directly between the portable unit and the base station is not possible, it is beneficial to use the mobile vehicular repeater unit in accordance with an extended coverage mode of operation, to relay communications between the portable unit and the base station. A mobile vehicular repeater unit constructed according to the present invention enters the extended coverage mode of operation in response to receipt of an access request, transmitted by a first of the plurality of portable units.

    Abstract: In a wireless communications system, upon making a decision to roam, the mobile chooses an alternate communications channel in a prioritized manner and evaluates the chosen channel for whether it is able to support a data link interconnection. Upon evaluating that a chosen channel is able to support a data link connection, the chosen channel is selected as the next best alternate channel on which to attempt a data link establishment procedure. The channels are chosen from a set of possible channels in an order including a home channel, an in area channel, and then any of the possible channels. Advantageously, the selection of the next best alternate channel provides increased probability of establishing and maintaining a data link over the selected channel as well as providing a certain amount of control communications traffic flow in the system.
