  • Patent number: 6212982
Abstract: A process and apparatus for manufacturing slot-shaped openings on hollow sections is disclosed in which the openings are produced by a piercing cutting operation by means of a blade-type cutting tool by the displacement of material in a cutout-free manner. During the slotting operation, the hollow sections are supported from the inside around the openings to be formed. In order to produce slot-shaped openings in a simple manner while maintaining the shape of the hollow section on arbitrarily constructed hollow sections in a reliable process free of positional tolerances, the hollow section is inserted in a recess of an internal high pressure forming tool. The hollow section is slotted by the interaction of the cutting action of a cutting tool integrated in the internal high pressure forming tool and an internal high pressure generated inside the hollow section.

  • Patent number: 6092285
Abstract: A process and a device produces a linkage of a hollow cylindrical air/fuel ratio detector holder to an opening for the impingement of the air/fuel ratio detector, which is fastened into the holder, to an exhaust pipe equipped with exhaust gas. A desired finished shape is given through internal high-pressure remodeling of a blank pipe. During this process, internal high-pressure remodeling creates a contact surface on the exhaust pipe which is formed by a buckling. The contact surface is created in the inverted shape of the contact contour of the casing surface of the holder so that a dimensionally stable linkage of an air/fuel ratio detector holder to an exhaust pipe is achieved simply.

  • Patent number: 6012317
Abstract: An arrangement for the internal high-pressure forming of hollow profiles has an internal high-pressure forming tool, into whose die sinking the hollow profile can be inserted. At least one axial die has a sealing head which can be inserted with play by a section into the hollow profile. This sealing head has a support part which is provided with a pressure fluid duct and on which a sealing arrangement is held and which is rigidly connected with the axial die, and has a stop surface, which in the operative position of the sealing head rests on the face side against the end of the hollow profile. The sealing arrangement contains at least one sealing element which can be radially spread open for an allaround sealing contact on the interior side of the hollow profile.

  • Patent number: 6006566
Abstract: A method and a device for removal of a slug separated from a hollow profile by means of a fluidic internal pressure from a hydroforming tool. The slug is separated from the hollow profile from the inside to the outside by the retraction of a plunger integrated into the hydroforming tool and clearing a slug channel when retracted, and is forced out of the die cavity of the hydroforming tool into the slug channel. Then, with the hollow profile in a zero-pressure state, the slug, which after it is pressed in abuts the end of the plunger, is removed by a removal tool from the hydroforming tool. In order to remove slugs from the hydroforming tool in any desired position of the slug channel that leads into the die of the hydroforming tool, in which the slug is initially received after perforation, in simple fashion, the slug is held at the end of the plunger during its stay in the slug channel by an adhesion means connected with the plunger.

  • Patent number: 5697155
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for manufacturing T-pieces from an unbranched starting piece of pipe by means of internal high-pressure forming (IHF). For this purpose, the starting piece of pipe is placed in a two-part forming tool which gives the shape, can be opened and closed, surrounds the starting piece of pipe, and has a cutout corresponding to the desired shape of the T-shaped pipe branch. Placed in a sealing manner against the two open end faces of the inserted starting piece of pipe in each case is a plunger which is movable in the forming tool and can be pushed axially into the forming took in each case by a pressure cylinder. The interior of the starting piece of pipe is filled with pressure fluid by means of an opening in at least one of the plungers, prior to being placed on the plungers in a sealing manner.
