  • Patent number: 7918315
Abstract: A limited slip differential transmission of the closed type in which a pressurized lubricant is fed to the rotating gears and a series of limited slip clutch plates. The clutch plates are engaged by pressurized control fluid. A valve assembly having a spool valve is responsive to engagement pressure to permit discharge of a portion of pressurized fluid from the clutch plates to a sump chamber and the transmission to purge debris that may have accumulated in the clutch plates. The spool valve is arranged so that fluid is passed only during an intermediate movement of the valve to minimize any pressure loss from the lubricating fluid for the transmission and limited slip clutches.

  • Publication number: 20080296123
Abstract: A simplified and improved clutch piston, retractor system is provided for controlling the running clearance of clutch plate(s) to minimize windage loss and to improve transmission shift quality. This improved shift quality helps improve operator's comfort reduce shock loads on power transmission components, and reduce the energy input to the clutches when changing gears during the acceleration and deceleration of the vehicle. The clutch piston retractor system is self adjusting to accommodate wear to the clutch disks and optimize the shift quality, while compensating for the additional travel distance. Thus, the need to periodically recalibrate the entire system is eliminated.

  • Publication number: 20080116019
Abstract: A brake assembly for a vehicle, such as an agricultural vehicle, having a brake housing and a brake cover defining a friction chamber. A brake piston is arranged within the friction chamber and coupled to the brake cover by at least one bolt having a sleeve in frictional engagement with a bore of the brake piston. The sleeve has a slip fit engagement with a bolt head and further includes a shoulder opposed to a retainer being axially spaced therefrom by a distance exceeding an axial height of the bolt head by an amount equal to an optimal running clearance. An actuation system is coupled to apply an axial force to the brake piston, the axial force being greater than the frictional fit of the sleeve to the bore in order to adjust a running clearance of the brake assembly to equal the optimal running clearance.
