  • Publication number: 20240068682
Abstract: A system and method for controlling air quality within an indoor space are disclosed. An example system includes an air circulation unit that moves air through ductwork of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system and an air sanitization unit within the ductwork of the HVAC system that sanitizes air passing through the ductwork of the HVAC system. The system further includes an indoor air quality controller that controls a rate at which the air circulation unit moves the air through the ductwork of the HVAC system responsive to inputs received at the indoor air quality controller and controls an operational status of the air sanitization unit responsive to the inputs received at the indoor air quality controller.

  • Patent number: 10598404
Abstract: A damper regulator for controlling the opening/closing characteristics of an HVAC damper has a swing arm coupled to the shaft on which the damper pivots. The swing arm has an arm carriage mounted to translate on the swing arm as the swing arm pivots, and a biasing spring connects the arm carriage to the damper regulator's housing, or to another suitable anchor. The translation of the arm carriage effectively adapts the characteristics of the biasing spring so that the damper need not be subjected to ever-increasing pressure to achieve greater airflow, or so that other damper opening characteristics can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 8157881
Abstract: An air cleaner comprises an enclosing structure having support members spaced a distance from top and bottom walls. A collapsible extended surface pleated media filter has end members and a pleated mechanical media filter. The end members have an outer surface and a thickness that is based on the distance that the support surfaces are spaced from the top and bottom walls to provide an effective seal against air flowing around the collapsible filter. The end members can have a seal structure provided on the outer surface that interacts with the top or bottom wall. The collapsible filter optionally includes flexible support member(s) on or in the pleated mechanical media filter that assist in keeping the pleats open. The pleated mechanical media filter can extend beyond the end member(s) and interact with portions of the frame to provide an effective seal against air flowing around the collapsible filter.

  • Patent number: 5716115
Abstract: A selectively removable door assembly is provided for completing an air filter housing having a series of interconnected walls for enclosing an air filter, certain of the walls being formed with retaining pockets. The door assembly comprises a door having a main portion and opposed end portions. Each of the end portions is provided with a ridge engageable with a respective one of the pockets on the walls for retaining the door on the housing. At least one of the ridges is resiliently and slidably mounted on the door in a biased snap-fit in its respective pocket such that pushing against the bias of the resiliently mounted ridge will permit movement of the other ridge out of its respective pocket and allow the removal of the door to access the air filter.

  • Patent number: 5655825
Abstract: A one-piece framework for holding the filter media of an air filter includes a pair of end walls integrally connected to a pair of frame members by a living hinge so that they may be pivotally moved between an assembled position and an unassembled position. A pair of sidewalls are integrally connected to the frame members by a living hinge only at their outermost ends so that they, too, may be pivotally moved between their assembled and unassembled position. Each of either of the sidewalls or end walls is provided with a tab-type latch which includes a button undercut at least a peripheral portion thereof. Each of the other sidewalls or end walls has an opening formed therethrough. The opening is defined by a wall shaped in accordance with and frictionally surrounding the undercut button in a snap-fit to hold the sidewalls to the end walls in an assembled state.

  • Patent number: 5211891
Abstract: A frame for holding an evaporative pad in the base of a humidifier includes side walls, base and a top that define an evaporative pad holding chamber. Each of the side walls, base and top is provided with a flange that extends inwardly toward the opening and is engageable with a lip on the base to form an air seal. The flange is provided with a rib portion that extends outwardly away from the pad chamber and is dimensioned so as to create a gap between the rib and any adjacent base surface in order to inhibit the migration of mineral deposits from the pad to the base.
