Publication number: 20220199227Abstract: A system and method using a biomathetical model in conjunction with an optimization method for an individuals alertness impairment at a future time based on a known sleep schedule by adjusting the intake of caffeine over that schedule. In a further embodiment, placing constraints on the frequency, the dose amount, and/or total amount consumed over the course of the future schedule. In a further embodiment, optimizing the sleep schedule (prior to or independent of caffeine optimization) to decrease the individuals alertness impairment at the future time(s). In a further embodiment, adjust both the sleep schedule and caffeine intake to decrease the individuals alertness impairment at the future time(s). In at least one embodiment, the system including a mobile based system and/or a networked computer-based system.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2020Publication date: June 23, 2022Applicant: The Government of the United States, as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Jaques Reifman, Sridhar Ramakrishnan, Thomas J. Patent number: 7766827Abstract: An apparatus and a method for predicting cognitive performance of an individual based on factors including preferably sleep history and the time of day. The method facilitates the creation of predicted cognitive performance curves that allow an individual to set his/her sleep times to produce higher levels of cognitive performance. The method also facilitates the reconstruction of past cognitive performance levels based on sleep history.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2004Date of Patent: August 3, 2010Assignee: United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Thomas J. Balkin, Gregory L. Belenky, Stanley W. Hall, Gary H. Kamimori, Daniel P. Redmond, Helen C. Sing, Maria L. Thomas, David R. Thorne, Nancy Jo Wesensten

Patent number: 6743167Abstract: A system and a method for providing a determination of predicted cognitive performance of an individual preferably based on the time of day and on factors including sleep history based on activity data from an actigraph. The system and the method provide a numerical representation of the predicted cognitive performance. Both may be used to optimize the work schedule of the actigraph wearer to maximize the cognitive capacity during working hours.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2003Date of Patent: June 1, 2004Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Thomas J.
