Patent number: 10548380Abstract: A waterproof housing for an electronic device includes a first member, a second member, and a gasket. The first member includes a perimeter portion, an interior bounding member, and an exterior bounding member. The interior bounding member and the exterior bounding member form a channel in the first member and the exterior bounding member includes a groove. The second member removably couples to the first member to form the waterproof housing. The second member includes a perimeter portion that extends into the channel of the first member when the second member is coupled to the first member. The second member further includes a ridge that mates with the groove of the exterior bounding member of the first member. The gasket is compressed between the first member and the second member when the first member is coupled to the second member.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2016Date of Patent: February 4, 2020Assignee: TreeFrog Developments, Inc.Inventors: Gary A. Rayner, Matthew M. Glanzer, Richard W. Vinson, Thomas J. Davison

Patent number: 10291059Abstract: A charging apparatus for charging a portable electronic device includes a receiving area, two coil pairs, and coil control circuitry. The receiving area is configured to removably receive the portable electronic device and/or a case for a portable electronic device. The two coil pairs are positioned around a perimeter of the receiving area of the charging apparatus. Each coil pair includes first and second electrically conductive coils. The second electrically conductive coil is opposite the first electrically conductive coil on the perimeter of the receiving area and the ends of each electrically conductive coil including electrical leads. The coil control circuitry is electrically connected to each electrically conductive coil. The coil control circuitry is configured to selectively provide a charging current to at least one of the coil pairs to induce a magnetic field around the electrically conductive coils for inductively charging the portable electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2017Date of Patent: May 14, 2019Assignee: Otter Products, LLCInventors: Thomas J. Davison, James C. Larsen

Patent number: 10008870Abstract: A case for an electronic device includes a front member having an aperture for interacting with a touchscreen of the electronic device and a back member that includes a rechargeable power cell, a switched electrical interface, an electromechanical switch, and current monitoring circuitry. The switched electrical interface has an enabled mode in which electrical current is permitted to flow from the rechargeable power cell of the case to the installed electronic device and a disabled mode in which the electrical current is not permitted to flow to the installed electronic device. The electromechanical switch transitions the switched electrical interface from the disabled mode to the enabled mode. The current monitoring circuitry automatically toggles the switched electrical interface from the enabled mode to the disabled mode when the magnitude of the electrical current flowing from the case to the electronic device decreases to a predetermined value.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2015Date of Patent: June 26, 2018Assignee: Otter Products, LLCInventors: Thomas J. Davison, Mark W. Rau

Patent number: 9698632Abstract: A wireless charger includes a plurality of conductive coils and electronic circuitry. The coils are disposed around a perimeter and face a generally central area of the perimeter. The coils are connected to and controlled by the electronic circuitry, which includes an electric power receiving circuit and a coil controller. The electric power receiving circuit receives electrical power from an external source and conditions the power for provision to the coil controller. The coil controller controls provision of an oscillating current to select coils within the plurality of coils. A protective enclosure or portable electronic device may have receiving coils disposed at its sides for corresponding to at least two of the conductive coils of the wireless charger.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2015Date of Patent: July 4, 2017Assignee: Otter Products, LLCInventors: Thomas J.
