Publication number: 20220102960Abstract: A switching device that is part of a transformer in an underground residential power distribution circuit and provides fault isolation and restoration. The switching device includes a transformer interface for coupling the device to the transformer and a connector interface for coupling the device to a connector. The device also includes a vacuum interrupter having a fixed terminal and a movable terminal, where the fixed terminal is electrically coupled to the connector interface and the movable terminal is electrically coupled to the transformer interface. A control rod is coupled to the movable terminal, an actuator assembly is coupled to the control rod and is operable to move the control rod to open and close the vacuum interrupter. A capacitor is electrically coupled to the fixed terminal, and provides an interface for power line communications signals, voltage sensing, help determine power flow direction and help determine the distance to a fault.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 12, 2021Publication date: March 31, 2022Applicant: S&C Electric CompanyInventors: Alejandro Montenegro, Michael R. Publication number: 20210175033Abstract: A method for performing a low energy pulse testing in a power distribution network that causes contacts to close and then open in about one fundamental frequency cycle of current flow time and close on a voltage waveform that produces symmetrical fault current. The method includes energizing a magnetic actuator to move the actuator against the bias of a spring to move a movable contact towards a fixed contact. The method also includes de-energizing the actuator when the movable contact makes contact with the fixed contact so as to allow the spring to move the movable contact away from the fixed contact so that the amount of time that the current conducts is about one fundamental frequency cycle of the current, where energizing the magnetic actuator occurs when an applied voltage on the switch assembly is at a peak of the voltage wave so that the current is symmetric.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2020Publication date: June 10, 2021Applicant: S&C Electric CompanyInventors: David G. Patent number: 7837832Abstract: Wiping products are disclosed comprising a sheet and an additive composition. The additive composition, for instance, comprises an aqueous dispersion containing an alpha-olefin polymer, an ethylene-carboxylic acid copolymer, or mixtures thereof. The alpha-olefin polymer may comprise an interpolymer of ethylene and octene, while the ethylene-carboxylic acid copolymer may comprise ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer. The additive composition may also contain a dispersing agent, such as a fatty acid. The additive composition may be incorporated into the sheet by being combined with the fibers that are used to form the sheet. Alternatively, the additive composition may be topically applied to the sheet after the sheet has been formed. For instance, in one embodiment, the additive composition may be applied to the sheet as a creping adhesive during a creping operation. The additive composition may improve the strength of the sheet and/or improve the perceived softness of the sheet.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2007Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Assignee: Dow Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Christopher B. Patent number: 7678231Abstract: Sheet-like products are disclosed containing an additive composition. In accordance with the present disclosure, the additive composition is applied to a creping surface. The additive composition includes at least an aqueous dispersion containing a thermoplastic polymer. A base sheet is then pressed against the creping surface for contact with the additive composition. The base sheet is then creped from the creping surface causing the additive composition to transfer to the base sheet. In particular, the additive composition is transferred to the base sheet in amounts greater than about 1% by weight, such as from about 2% to about 50% by weight. The additive composition may further include a lotion, a debonder, a softener, or mixtures thereof.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2007Date of Patent: March 16, 2010Assignee: Dow Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Thomas J. Patent number: 6118643Abstract: A surge suppression module is provided for connection to a wall receptacle and interconnection with other modules. Each module includes a top portion rotatably connected to a bottom portion. A male electrical plug extends from a top surface, and a female plug from a bottom surface. The top and bottom surfaces of the top and bottom portions, respectively, form opposing top and bottom surfaces of the module when the module is in an in-line orientation with an in-line axis through the module passing through the female and male plugs. The top and bottom portions are rotatable about an axis of rotation angled at 45.degree. to the in-line axis, and rotate from the in-line orientation to a wall mounting orientation, wherein the male plug extends from a side of the module and is perpendicular to in-line axis. Surge suppression and filtering circuitry is carried within the bottom portion along with connectors for connection of electrical equipment used with the surge suppression module.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1999Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: Kui Hwan ShinInventors: Thomas J.
