  • Patent number: 7210197
Abstract: A nozzle assembly is provided for a suction cleaning device. The nozzle assembly includes a body having an edge and a bottom wall. The bottom wall includes an intake opening and a portion extending between the edge and the intake opening. At least one channel is provided within that portion. That channel extends between the edge and the intake opening and has a cross sectional area decreasing in a direction extending from the edge toward the intake opening. Air drawn through the channel is accelerated as it approaches the intake opening in order to increase the dirt, dust and debris entraining capacity of that air and overall vacuum cleaner cleaning efficiency.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 23, 2004
Date of Patent: May 1, 2007
Assignee: Panasonic Corporation of North America
Inventors: Thomas J. Fedorka, Jason R. Gieske, Jason D. Bowden
  • Patent number: 7069619
Abstract: A floor care apparatus includes a housing having a nozzle assembly with a suction inlet and a canister assembly. A dirt collector and suction generator are carried on the housing. The apparatus further includes a wand having an inlet opening and a sealing element for sealing that inlet opening when the wand is held in a storage position. Additionally, the apparatus includes a valve and an airflow conduit system. The airflow conduit system provides fluid communication between the suction inlet, the inlet opening, the valve, the dirt collector and the suction generator. The valve is selectively displaceable between a closed position whereby the suction inlet is sealed off from fluid communication with the suction generator and an open position whereby the suction inlet is provided in fluid communication with the suction generator.

  • Patent number: 5713810
Abstract: A belt lifter for a vacuum cleaner includes a rotatable member attached to an extending arm for lifting a drive belt on and off of a drive shaft to respective connect and disconnect the belt. The rotatable member includes a lever arm which facilitates the rotation of the extending arm by providing a mechanical advantage. The lever arm is of sufficient length so as to permit hand gripping by an operator. The lever arm is movable between an operating position and a stowed position.
