    Abstract: In a telecommunications/data network, it is common to have multiple recovery domains each employing its own technique for recovering a fault that may be different from a technique employed by another domain. Permitting multiple recovery domains to recover a fault without coordination among the domains can result in adverse interactions, such as rapid and repeated changes in the actions taken or “flapping,” and repeated hits to traffic. A method and corresponding apparatus for coordinating fault recovery in a network, according to an embodiment of the present invention, notifies a first recovery domain that a second recovery domain is or is not taking action to recover a fault in the network. Coordinating the recovery efforts of the first and second recovery domains reduces fault recovery time and allows concurrent actions to be taken.

    Abstract: The embodiments disclosed herein provide a mechanism for sharing protection resources in an arbitrary network topology involving pre-computing the protection resources so that data-plane-based protection can be used to activate the protection resources upon detection of a failure, thus, providing faster switching times than typical control-plane-based solutions. This is accomplished by configuring a mesh network to include, for a working path in the network, one or more protection paths with the same end nodes as the working path, where each protection path includes at least one intermediate node that is not part of the working path. The intermediate node accepts a protection request from one of the end nodes and determines whether a local resource for a protection path is available.

The mounting system can be formed integrally with at least one pluggable optical device. The system also includes at least one further pluggable optical device having at least one optical interface optically coupled to the first optical connector of the at least one pluggable optical device. In one example, the pluggable optical device is a CFP device, and the further pluggable optical device is a QSFP+. With this configuration, the QSFP+ can accommodate at least one of a 40 G and 10 G interface capability. Also provided is a connector system and an apparatus (e.g., pluggable optical device) that enable such a capability.

    Abstract: Described herein are a system and method to provide energy to consumers using a prepaid usage model so as to protect the ability to recoup start-up and recurrent costs while simultaneously offering lower-income individuals the ability to access the energy on-demand. The system and method allow verification with an account server of a user's prepaid usage balance so an energy provider need not extend credit to the user or bill a user after energy usage. The system is portable and versatile in that it can be adapted to different energy sources including renewable energy sources such as wind, water, and/or solar sources. Anti-tampering features reduce the likelihood that the energy system will be disassembled with the components appropriated for repurposing.

    Abstract: A hard disk drive for a computer system including a head disk assembly with a disk platter of approximately one-and-eight-tenths-inch in diameter capable of storing more than forty megabytes. In an embodiment, data tracks on each data surface of the platter are spaced at approximately 2,558 tracks per inch and each data track has approximately 36,000 flux changes per inch. An actuator positions a pair of read/write heads on each platter surface using a voice coil motor to position the heads over a cylinder. A magnetic actuator latch attaches to another magnet on the actuator and locks the heads in a parked position at the innermost diameter of the platter. A spindle motor rotates the platter at approximately 5,400 revolutions per minute. A base plate, with a gasketed surface and a raised lip, hermetically seals with a cover to the base plate such that the platter, the actuator, the actuator latch, and the spindle motor are all contained within. The cover carries a breather filter and recirculating air filter.
