  • Publication number: 20120286076
Abstract: A hose-fed lateral move irrigation system and method that utilizes a pipe with a plurality of sprinklers attached to a wheeled cart that drags a flexible hose assembly therebehind while traveling laterally with the pipe and sprinklers relative to a field so that alternating the flexible hose assembly from one side of the cart to another as the cart traverses back and forth along a cart path is facilitated while kinking in the flexible hose assembly is avoided.

  • Publication number: 20120067441
Abstract: An irrigation pipe and method of fabrication that utilizes a pipe that is made of a durable material, e.g., stainless steel or aluminum. During fabrication, the pipe is equipped with a plurality of components, i.e., a flange assembly, a truss mount, and an outlet, without drilling, welding, or the like. In this manner, a method of fabrication is provided that enables a plurality of components to be assembled to the pipe without compromising the integrity of the pipe material or treated surface so that galvanizing or painting is not required after the plurality of components have been fitted to the pipe.

  • Publication number: 20110101135
Abstract: The invention relates to a self-propelled, wheeled irrigation vehicles (10) that may be converted into a multi-track self-propelled irrigation vehicle (60) using one or more track assemblies (62). Each track assembly (62) includes a carriage (70) with frames (92, 94) that support a plurality of pairs of idler wheels (74, 76), and pairs of bogey wheels (80, 82, 84). A portion of one of the frames (94) is telescopically received within a portion of the other frame (92), so that the frames (92, 94) may move relative to each other in a linear fashion. A tensioning apparatus (212) is connected to the frames (92, 94) so that the frames are adjustable relative to each other. Each carriage (70) also includes a hub support frame (90) that is connected to one of the frames (92) in an offset manner. The hub support frame (90) includes an aperture (132) that rotatably receives a spindle (262) of an adaptor (258).

  • Publication number: 20090087260
Abstract: To prevent the rut-like wheel tracks of an irrigation machine from becoming so deep that the wheels of an irrigation tower can become stuck in mud and water accumulating in the track, a foundation member is inserted into select, potentially troublesome portions of the wheel track to provide support for the wheels during subsequent passes of the machine. In one embodiment the foundation member comprises a generally rectangular pad constructed from synthetic resinous material and designed to be hooked together with other such pads in a chain-like series to provide the length of foundation required. In another embodiment, the foundation member comprises a thinner web or ribbon of preferably synthetic resinous material that may be wound into a coil for storage and cut to length as required. A third embodiment comprises a series of end-to-end pads hingedly interconnected by thinner lines of weakness that may be severed to provide a desired length of foundation member.

  • Publication number: 20080054105
Abstract: A pipe span of a mobile irrigation system has an elongated volume displacement body contained within the interior flow passage of the span so as to occupy space that would otherwise be available for liquid flow. The displacement body is of reduced transverse dimension relative to the inside diameter of the span so as to present a flow path around the outside of the body between the latter and the sidewall of the span. The length of the body selected for use depends upon the desired amount of volume to be displaced. Alternative embodiments of the displacement body include a tubular member with closed, opposite ends, a thin-walled tubular member provided with a rigid foam insert for strength, a thin-walled tubular member with internal stiffeners, and a rigid foam member devoid of a surrounding thin-walled tubular member.

  • Patent number: 7311275
Abstract: Mobile towers of an irrigation system have drive wheel assemblies that propel the towers along the ground. At least certain of the wheel assemblies may comprise dual wheels that share a common axis of rotation but are separately driven by their own drive motor. By driving the two separate wheels in unison but with their own individual drive shafts, increased ground-engaging surface area can be obtained without a consequential increase in load for any one motor.

  • Patent number: 7309035
Abstract: A flow-through joint in an irrigation machine between the main pipeline section and a swing span, such as a corner span, permits a limited amount of generally linear displacement of the swing span within the joint for speed control or other purposes. A turret that rotates freely on the upright outlet port of the main pipeline section has a pair of coupling assemblies on opposite sides of the upright pivot axis through the outlet port, one of such coupling assemblies having a ball joint and the other being provided with relatively displaceable components. The arms of a connecting yoke on the inner end of the swing span are coupled with the ball joint on the one hand and the displaceable components on the other so as to provide the necessary swinging and pivoting motions while at the same time allowing displacing movement as necessary for control purposes.

  • Patent number: 6343992
Abstract: A coupler for connecting first and second shafts has a male cross member pinned to the first shaft and a female body member clamped onto the second shaft. The female body member has a housing with internal splines interlocking with mating external splines on the cross member. A longitudinally split clamp has a sill portion integral with the female body member and a half clamp member engageable with the sill portion. The split clamp has a single locking bolt which reduces the time required for installation. The external splines are relieved at one end to allow the coupler to tolerate some misalignment between the shafts.

  • Patent number: 6109535
Abstract: An irrigation machine distribution pipeline is protected against corrosion by a plastic liner within a steel pipeline. Access openings are spaced along the pipeline and aligned with apertures in the plastic liner. The liner extends the full length of the pipeline. The outside diameter of the liner is sufficiently less than the inside diameter of the pipeline to allow the liner to slide into the pipeline during installation of the liner. A plurality of plastic outlet fittings extend through each access opening and aperture. Each outlet fitting is in sealing engagement with the plastic liner and provides fluid communication from the interior of the plastic liner through the aperture to the exterior of the pipeline. With this construction none of the steel components of the pipeline comes in direct contact with the water.

  • Patent number: 5695129
Abstract: A flexible joint accommodates relative horizontal motion between the main pipeline of a center pivot irrigation machine and a swing span without unduly stressing the spans. The flexible joint has a spindle mounted for rotation about a vertical axis in a socket at the outer end of the main pipeline section. The spindle has a horizontal pivot shaft mounting an arm assembly for rotation about the shaft. The opposite end of the arm assembly carries a second pivot shaft pivotally mounting a link. The swing span is attached to the link. A brake is provided to limit coasting of the swing span.

  • Patent number: 4564224
Abstract: This is a coupling arrangement which is usable in an overhead irrigation system of the traveling or moving type more commonly known as center pivot and laterally moving irrigation systems. The present coupling arrangement is connected between the slightly spaced ends of two pipes which are generally aligned. A flexible coupling in the nature of a mechanical interlock is positioned within and between the ends of the pipes and a sealing arrangement is disposed around the coupling with the coupling itself being constructed and arranged to provide for and accept misalignment to some degree between the pipes and also for some swiveling. This is also an alignment arrangement for irrigation systems.
