  • Patent number: 5496972
Abstract: A weigh scale platform having a first, closed position providing a horizontal weighing surface and a second, open position for supporting flats in a substantially vertical orientation. The platform includes a base and first and second portions supported by the base. The first and second portions are horizontal and co-planar in the first position and are connected by a first hinge. The second portion is connected to the rear edge of the base by a second hinge. In the second position the first portion rotates about the first hinge to a substantial vertical orientation and is closed in place. The second portion rotates around the second hinge to support the first portion. The base also includes a ridge and a channel to support and restrain the lower edge of a vertically supported flat.

  • Patent number: 5332182
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for adjustably leveling a machine base, such as a postal scale, wherein the machine base does not have to be turned over to accomplish the leveling adjustment. The apparatus includes a threaded support shaft having a non-circular configuration at one end and a leveling wheel having a threaded passage capable of receiving and mating with the threaded support shaft. A retaining structure is capable of retaining the rotational movement of the threaded support shaft and is capable of restricting movement of the threaded support shaft relative to the base.

  • Patent number: 4865214
Abstract: A wastebasket includes a container having a top opening, and a lid mounted on the container and adapted to pivot about a pivot axis to cover and uncover the top opening. A mechanism for actuating pivotal movement of the lid with respect to the container is provided. The mechanism includes a generally horizontal operating lever having a foot pedal, a depending flange joined to the lid, and a rod linkage interconnecting the operating lever and the flange. The lid flange has an elongated slot formed through its thickness. The slot includes a channel and two enlargements situated at opposite ends of the channel. The rod linkage slides through the channel into one of the two enlargements, and engages the lid flange at either enlargement to pivot the lid between positions covering and uncovering the container.

  • Patent number: 4858781
Abstract: A rigid waste container having a bottom and walls and a peripherally depending rigid shift for offsetting the bottom of the container from a support surface. The skirt has one or more spaced orifices and affixed to the underside of the bottom of the container is a ratchet bar. A holder for a package of waste container liners is mounted on the side of the container. The holder includes a pawl arm, an upright member joined to the pawl arm and a pawl escapement tooth formed on the pawl arm. The holder is located through the orifice of the skirt so as to be in slideable engagement with the ratchet bar. This arrangement is adapted to receive a supply package of liner bags located between the upright member and the wall of the container. The supply package is of sufficient resiliency so as to permit locking engagement of the package between the upright member and the container. The holder is formed of one piece construction and is flat prior to assembly.

  • Patent number: 4789078
Abstract: A wastebasket includes a container having an upper rim defining an open end, and a lid mounted on the container at its upper rim. The lid is positionable to cover and uncover the open end. The lid is pivotable between a closed position, where it covers the open end of the container, and an open position, where it is disposed in a substantially upright position uncovering the open end of the container. The lid and container include portions which are used for latching the lid in the upright, open position so that the lid will not fall inadvertently. The container latching portion includes a rib having an exposed corner and a recess. The lid latching portion is resiliently yieldable and includes a protrusion which is adapted to ride over the corner and snap into recess of the container rib when the lid is in the open position.

  • Patent number: 4776478
Abstract: A wastebasket includes a container and a lid which is mounted on the container. The container is formed with an opening providing access to the container's interior. The lid is pivotable about a pivot axis to cover and at least partially uncover the container opening. The pivot axis divides the lid into a forward portion and a rearward portion which are respectively disposed on opposite forward and rearward sides of a vertical plane encompassing the pivot axis when the lid is in a position covering the container opening. The forward portion of the lid has a greater cross-sectional area than the rearward portion, and the rearward portion has a greater weight than the forward portion. The lid is pivotable between a first position, where the lid substantially covers the container opening, and a second position, where the forward portion of the lid is disposed inwardly of the container and uncovers at least a portion of the container opening.

  • Patent number: 4753367
Abstract: A wastebasket which is adapted to receive an inner liner includes a container having an upper rim defining an open end, and a lid pivotally mounted on the container and adapted to cover the open end. A bezel is provided for releasably retaining an inner liner in the container. The bezel is pivotally mounted on the container at its open end, and is pivotable between first position, when the bezel is disposed substantially co-planarly with the upper rim of the container, and a second position, where the bezel is raised at an angle above the rim of the container. The wastebasket also includes structure for pivotally mounting the bezel to the container and for retaining the bezel in the raised second position.
