Patent number: 6749449Abstract: An electrical receptacle, including a power source and a contact for making an electrical connection between the power source and a prong of an electrical plug. At least one switch is in series between the contact and the power source, and a smooth member covers at least a portion of the at least one switch. The switch is normally in the closed position and moves in a direction from the closed position to the open position due to a force applied to the smooth member covering at least a portion of the at least one switch by the prong of the electrical plug when the prong of the electrical plug is inserted into the electrical receptacle and contacts the resilient, smooth member.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2001Date of Patent: June 15, 2004Assignee: Hubbell IncorporatedInventors: Sorin I. Mortun, Thomas J. Vigorito

Patent number: 6739900Abstract: An electrical connector, comprising a housing, having a front face with first and second openings therein, the first and second openings receiving first and second electrical prongs, respectively. First and second box terminals are coupled to the housing using first and second fastening members. The first fastening member is inserted into the housing from substantially the same direction as the second fastening member. First and second electrical contacts are at least partially received in the first and second box terminals, respectively, and adapted to couple to the first and second electrical prongs, respectively. A cord grip is coupled to the housing and has an insert. The insert is capable of being adjusted to at least two different positions and thereby allowing electrical cords of differing diameters to be frictionally held by the cord grip. This configuration of electrical connector allows easy, secure assembly, while allowing multiple sized cords to be securely held therein.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2001Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Assignee: Hubbell IncorporatedInventors: Sorin I. Mortun, Thomas J. Vigorito

Patent number: 5743759Abstract: An electrical connector with a cord seal is disclosed for attachment to an end of an electrical cord to prevent dust, moisture and other foreign matter from entering the electrical connector. The electrical connector preferably a connector body with a plurality of electrical contacts mounted therein, and cover coupled to the connector body. The cover has an end wall with the cord seal mounted therein such that the outer surface of the cord seal is at least substantially flush with respect to the exterior surface of the end wall of the cover to increase the difficulty of removing the cord seal from the opening in the end wall of the cover. In other words, the geometry of the exterior surface of the end wall of the cover blends with the geometry of the outer surface of the cord seal. The electrical connector can be either a male or a female electrical connector.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1996Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: Hubbell IncorporatedInventors: Albert A.
