One example method may comprise receiving input to open a mobile application at a mobile device, and without any additional input, accessing a location service of the GPS enabled mobile device to determine a GPS location and automatically generating a query, the query comprising the GPS location, identifying a predefined mix of content from a content index in accordance with an editing target, wherein the editing target specifies a number of articles and wherein the predefined mix indicates a portion of the editing target directed to at least one category, determining whether the editing target and the predefined mix are met, determining a new location, the new location being larger in geographic area and containing the location, in an instance in which the editing target and the predefined mix are not met, and displaying the results.

One example method comprises, for each document in an initial local content corpus, applying a first set of heuristic filters to the raw content of each document, identifying at least a second term, applying a second set of heuristic filters to the raw content of each document, the second set of heuristic filters associated with the second term, iteratively performing the identification of additional terms and application of an additional set of heuristic filters associated with the additional terms until each identifiable term is extracted, determining a level on a geographic containment hierarchy indicative of a location to which each document from the set of documents is local, and for each place in a gazette, and for each document, determining a set of place in a gazette, and for each document, determining a set of points in polygons indicative of its locality.

In response to a request about the place, a query is formed and provided to the index for retrieving local content relevant to the place.

Abstract: A method for generating a body of content relevant to a geographical space can comprise building a gazette containing a lexicon of at least people, places, and organizations. A system can process content obtain from a plurality of sources to bootstrap an initial set of entities for each of the places in the gazette. A local content corpus can be created utilizing the initial set of entities. This bootstrapping process may utilize geocodes and/or heuristics that are topological, people oriented, place oriented, etc. The bootstrapping may further comprise ascribing the content based on human curated documents known to be local to the place. Documents in the local content corpus are semantically related to each other with respect to the place.

Abstract: A target mosaic image is created by replacing each pixel in a smaller source image with an appropriately colorized tile image. Tiles may repeat, be non-square and/or non-rectangular, and be multi-sized. For artistic effect, selected areas of the target image may be excluded from tiling on the basis of user-supplied criteria. This methodology is in marked contrast to all other known methods for creating mosaic images (including the well-known method of Robert Silvers [U.S. Pat. No. 6,137,498], wherein the best match to the attributes of target regions/subregions are sought from a library of tile image candidates). Claims are also made with regard to several methodologies which support the mosaic image creation.

Abstract: The invention concerns a device for cleaning pipette needles or stirrers, the device comprising a trough which holds cleaning fluid and whose lower region has a fluid duct for filling and/or emptying purposes and whose upper region has at least one feed pipe which leads into at least one nozzle directed into the trough interior. Advantageously, the device has a cylindrical trough and in insert with nozzles which is screwed into the trough. The invention further concerns a method of cleaning pipette needles or stirrers, the material to be washed being introduced into the trough interior and sprayed with a washing fluid. The device can also be sued to flush the interior of a pipette needle.

Abstract: According to a first aspect, the present invention provides an apparatus for the evaluation of a longitudinally extending, flexible test carrier for the analytical determination of components of a body fluid. The test carrier has an insertion end to be inserted into the apparatus and a handling end. The test carrier is positioned and securely held in a measurement position in such a manner that its test field is present in a definite position with regard to the measurement unit. The positioning element includes at least two holding elements, one of which firmly holds the test carrier close to its insertion end and the other of which firmly holds the test carrier close to its handling end. A supporting surface being provided on which the test carrier lies at least partly in its measurement position.
