    Abstract: A mount or rest for a camera, firearm, spotting scope, sextant, or other optical or aiming device comprises a magnetic base for attachment to magnetically attractable surface, such as the a surface of a vehicle, a post extending vertically from the base, a tube telescopically received within the post, and a means for mounting an aiming device comprising a stem telescopically received within the tube. In another aspect, a system for supporting an aiming device is disclosed wherein a base unit is provided that allows for the use of the magnetic stand on a nonmagnetically attractable surface.
